I'm a senior from St.john's, newfoundland in Canada... I' recently asked my guidance counselor about U.S admissions and she said the last time someone from my school applied to the states was 5 years ago.... ( keep in mind, my high school is probably the best public high school in the province)... also when i did my SAT's, it was only me and one other person.... ( my city has a population of 120,000)

would this be an advantage, because maybe some colleges feel obligated to recruit someone from my general area... or will they view this as lack of competition??

eh I wouldn't say it's a huge advantage. Geographic advantage is normally for underrepresented states within the US. They seek diversity from other countries but you'll be compared against other fellow Canadian applicants (and there are quite a few in other parts). It could perhaps help but probably not as much as a kid from Montana or Wyoming.

It won't help THAT much...colleges like to say, 50 states and 3049340 countries or whatnot...they don't care if they have 30+ Canadians or just one.

Colleges will definitely NOT feel obligated to accept people from your area. While they would like to have diversity, they won't automatically accept you because you're from Canada. Actually, I think African-/Hispanic-Americans have a better shot in this area of consideration.
