I applied RD to Harvard and am from a small town in southeast Ohio and live in a household <75K in the poorest county in Ohio. Some have told me that Harvard reserves spots for those in geographically diverse areas like mine, but I was just wondering if this was really true? I am ranked 1 out of 150, 4.0 weighted GPA, 33 ACT, white male, tough curriculum with all APs offered, first generation to go to college, excellent ECs with leadership positions, and highly motivated as articulated in my essays just FYI. Great teacher recs too and my interview is this Sunday.

Colleges like that they can draw students from many areas. However, you’re just lumped into “Ohio” – so you don’t add anything to that potential boost. This won’t be an angle for you.

However, I’d just trust that they will immediately recognize the sort of environment you hail from and judge accordingly. Best of luck to you.
