Geographic Location's Impact on Admission

Hello! The title really does say all. I am from Kentucky. Will this skew results in my favor or against it? Thanks!

Depends on the school. Honestly geographics don’t matter a whole much, but if you are applying to a highly selective school, many of the students tend to be from California or the Northeast, so if they are looking for diversity a kid from kentucky wouldn’t be bad at all.

Depends on where you apply. Lots of state schools (UVA, W&M, UNC) have state mandated percentages of in-state students that must comprise their student body. Usually this number is @2/3, so in those cases it might hurt you. My guess is, though, that some schools will look favorably on your location for geographic distribution purposes, but all else being equal, this wouldn’t create any huge bump.
