Hey CC, so I'm a current freshman at a combination LAC/REU. I've become interested in studying geology but my school offers a very poor program in the field. While I love LACs, transferring to a research university makes more sense since more class sections are likely to be offered. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how A) easy it is to get classes at Boulder, B) how easy it is to do undergraduate research at the school, and C) any pertinent information about strengths or weaknesses of Boulder's geology program. I plan on applying for transfer next year (need to make sure I truly will major in the geosciences), so I don't have to worry about deadlines or anything of that nature.

You might also want to also consider Colorado School of Mines. It is strong in the geologic science and engineering areas and has an impressive record placing graduates into high paying jobs.

I’ve considered CO School of Mines and will probably apply there, but it’s difficult to get into for non community college transfers. Additionally it appears to lack any sort of Jewish life, which is a very important criteria in deciding which schools I’ll apply to.

CU-Boulder has every non academic criteria I want in an university: college town, excellent outdoors opportunities, at least a few intellectual students, and a thriving Hillel. Plus it’s much easier to get in as a transfer than at CO Mines and there are more non science courses available.
