Hey, I'm a high school senior trying to make a final decision, and i was just wondering if anyone is currently in a geology, geoscience or geophysics program at any of the following schools: Geneseo, Binghamton, Oswego, UB, or the University of Rochester. Even if you arent a current student there, I would love some information that anyone has on which school may be best for geology, based on what you've heard or read. Thanks

Reputation wise,

Just go to the school you like the most and can afford, have you visited any of them? Do you plan on going to grad school?

I’ve visited all of them and overall i probably liked Geneseo and Rochester the best, i’m just concerned about the strength of the program at Geneseo compared to the others. And cost at Rochester may be an issue. Yes, I do plan to go to grad school so I’m wondering if the bigger name schools like U of R, Binghamton, or UB would be a better option.

Those are both good schools, IMHO Rochester is best school of them all, but I’m going to UofR in the fall. (: Rochester is expensive but they are very good on financial aid, and if you are concerned about the strength of a program anywhere, that place might not be the place to go. For grad school as long as the program is decent, you have good grades, and some research, the undergrad school you go to won’t matter too much. I’m guessing you should wait for some of those fin aid packs to get to you.
