If a person were to take Geometry in the 8th grade and struggle, should they reconsider becoming a surgeon?
They should work on improving spatial reasoning and spatial intelligence. People’s brains develop at different rates and one of the reasons Geometry is taught in 8th grade is because that’s generally when most students are ready for it. But if you are struggling that is an opportunity for you to learn material that is challenging to you. For a lot of bright students the first time they are challenged is at university and they have no tools for dealing with difficult material. You are lucky, you can start building those tools now. Look for outside resources to understand the Geometry concepts and work harder.

Hello, I am took algebra in 8th grade and currently doing geometry in 9th grade and it is a different style.
Example: In algebra if I do a problem step by step I can do it pretty much for 50 problems the same steps as I did before.
In geometry it is a different style as each question is different and you need to apply different vocabulary terms on each question in order to get a answer.
My tip is to study vocabulary and different types of ‘reasons’ for proofs (for example “If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal the alternate interior angles are equal in measure” or “angles at a point sum to 360.”) and once that is easy you can apply that to different problems
Now for your surgeon’ issue
Sure being great at the math and science is important but don’t worry to much on that.
Being good at math you don’t NEED to be a surgeon but it is good to apply methods such as if you are preforming a surgery you follow all the steps (like basic algebra) but you then stumble upon a issue and he may die and his heart rate is going down fast then you need to get away from the steps and do what you know to fix it (like geometry.) I would assume a surgeon would need to know basic algebra and nothing really else.
But in all honestly living sciences (biology, anatomy etc;) not so much the physical science (they are still important and you do need them to be a surgeon such as a chem course which you need that knowledge to apply to AP bio.) is more needed for a surgeon.
Please do not post multiple times in CC as it will waste everyone’s time trying to focus your question.
As far as I am concerned, you don’t have to worry too much about being a surgeon as an 8th grader, you really cannot tell at this point some thing that will happen 20 years later. You can have dreams all you want, but whats face you right now is what you have to take care of. All you have to think is to attend the Geometry class and do well in it and that will give you a good basis for High School and try do well in your HS so you can attend a good college.
