Thank you, I just did! :)

From the Hatchet: "Executive Dean for Undergraduate Admissions Kathryn Napper said GW accepted a record 31.5 percent of applicants this year, down from 36.5 percent in 2009. "

31.5%. Wow- that’s great news.

Right on target once again schmohawk!! We know from prior history that there are always those high school “super stars” with incredible stats that get waitlisted from GW then go about making themselves feel better by making disparaging remarks about the school, ie…not a top 50, a safety school, not competitive students blah, blah… further proceeding to minimize and put down the accomplishment of those who actually were accepted. GW does appear to make some decisions correctly as they are hopefully sending these very mean- spirited individuals to other schools. Congrats to all those accepted and yes, there are many of us at GW who were also considered high achievers but we prefer to be a bit more humble.

Bummer, all my friends got in but I got waitlisted.
I thought I had a more than decent chance of getting in, but I suppose something about me put them off. But here, you guys see if I was just getting a big head:

SAT I: 2020
CR: 700
Math: 660

Attend a magnet HS ranked in the top 50 public HS in the US by Newsweek. Top 30%.

5 APs last year: European History-5, Microeconomics-5, Macroeconomics-5, English III-4, Government-4. Taking AP Biology, Statistics and English IV this year.

Captain of JV soccer team, on student council, NHS, key club, I’m kind of a Model UN freak and have won a few state-level awards, piano, viola, I attended Summer School in 2009 for 3 weeks at Georgetown University. And my biggest EC that I had hoped to ride my way in was an internship in the Texas Attorney General’s office for more than a year.

Am I just full of myself? (Oh, and I’ve heard that GW intentionally won’t pick you if they know that they’re a “safety school.” I also listed Georgetown and a few other big name schools as in my list, but that was more for fun and I didn’t get in any of them.) Contributing factoO? I’m still kind of bummed because I was kind of seeing myself going there next year.

MsBC, so true.

Great stats. They must have liked you enough to put you on the waitlist.

Maybe your major had something to do with it.

What are you majoring in?

to all the people who are saying gwu has tuft’s syndrome and they’re just too cool for this school:
GWU has spent the last few years increasing merit aid in order to attract more competitive students (i came here because of the awesome merit aid)- so they’re not just denying people because they have good stats, on the contrary they’re trying to get people with those stats- my guess is you showed that you had no real interest- it doesn’t even look like you respect the school from your posts, so they made the right decision
too bad too, because you could have gotten good merit aid
as a side note, im a current freshman here so if you have any questions id be happy to answer

Not that I agree with people ****ed that their 2300 SAT score didn’t get them into GW, but I don’t think interest really matters much. I didn’t interview. I never visited the school. I applied last minute and I still got in with merit aid. The only thing that hinted at my possibilities of going to GW are that I also applied to American (which I’d rather go to over GW, but I don’t know yet), so I’m obviously interested in going to school in DC.

I think GW looked more holistically and would rather have people who showed that they are smart in the real world than having the book smarts to pass a standardized test. A high SAT score doesn’t make you “awesome.”

Has anyone received their accept packet yet? D still hasn’t.

@lunatrick: yes, I received mine today.

Well, Wait-listed by GWU. Got into Columbia yesterday.

Checked decision online at 6:00 pm. Went to dinner with friends. Got home at 9:00 pm. The Columbia package already delivered to home by ups.

Best of luck to your son at Columbia, Victoria. Maybe it is time for you to move on to that board now…

Well Victoria, that worked out great for all of us, didn’t it?

To jimonthewall: May I ask why you would rather go to American?

Honestly, I think it’s a bit early to tag a “Tuft’s Syndrome” on a school. We all have access to limited information; basically, we just know from people who post on here. That’s not that many and it’s not even a considerable percentage of the students who applied/got in. Too many assumptions on very few sources. I’m sorry in advance if this sounds mean but I just find it realistic.

You are right insomniac; however, there are a limited number of reasons why several applicants with superb test scores and gpa’s are not being admitted.

Absolutely agreed GoldenDomer. I am very intrigued by the admissions process and would like to know those reasons because as you say - a lot of great applicants are being turned away. I guess we just have to wait and see. What I’ve learned from my own experiences: it’s all about being the “best fit.”

Just got my package. I got $40,000-45,000 in grants/scholarships, $2,200 in work study, rest in loans so I am DEFINATELY going!!! So excited! :D
