Georgetown Admissions

Hello! Beyond having high test scores and GPA, what other factors does GTown place high value in? What could I work on strengthening to improve my application? What things do they find very important in an application? Any experience or advice would be much appreciated! Thanks!

It depends on which school you are applying to. The College wants similar things to all other top institutions. The MSB will look for strength in math and an interest in business. The NHS will look for strength in science and dedication to the medical profession. The SFS will look for demonstrated interest in international relations, skill in language and openness to other cultures.

I haven’t taken the SAT or ACT yet. but on the PSAT I scored in the 97th percentile

My GPA is 4.8

My EC’s are my strong suit: I am a two time page in the General Assembly, I have done several internships in the city government, working under the City Council and the Board of Commissioners. I founded a politics club in my school that has operated for 3 years. I’ve introduced several government officials and led political panels through that club. I led a sustainability initiative at my school, transitioning certain areas to be more environmentally friendly ex. getting solar panels installed, reducing dining hall waste etc. I’ve also interned on several campaigns.

I’m in the National Honor Society and Highest Honor Roll

I’ve received the gold level Presidential Volunteer Service Award three times for a total of 600 hours of community service.

Lemme know what ya’ll think!

Compared to many other highly selective LACs, Georgetown does place more emphasis on “objective indicators” like test scores. Charles Deacon, their director of admissions, has admitted this.
