Georgetown Alumni Interview???

I have my alumni interview tomorrow right after school at the interviewer's office. I was wondering:
1. What kind of questions should I expect (besides Why Georgetown?) and what exactly are they looking for?
2. How much does the interview influence the admissions process?
3. Can I wear my school uniform (collared shirt and a skort)? Is wearing a Georgetown sweater - which I normally wear to school anyways - too much?
4. How long will the interview last?

Please help ease my mind, I think I'm a strong candidate but I'm really shy and I'm gonna be really nervous since it's my first interview.

go to the library after school today and get a book on job interviewing. Same kind of open-ending questions in college interviews as in job interviews, such as “tell me about yourself”. Or look on the web, lots of info there on job interviewing. If you raise any red flags that will be a big issue, but for the most part alum interviews don’t really help or hurt. What they are looking for is to get a sense of you, and, believe it or not, in many cases to also sell you on the school.

Georgetown knows they are not the only college you’ll apply to. If you’re a decent candidate at Georgetown then you’re a decent candidate at their competitors. If they offer you admission then they want you, and since at this point they have no idea if you’re going to be offered admission (especially if you’re interviewing with an alum) there is a bit of selling that is likely to go on.

Don’t make this the first time you’ve answered these questions. Nobody does well the 1st time. Print out some sample interview questions, practice answering them at home tonite, have a friend at school quiz you at lunch tomorrow. School uniform is fine, Georgetown sweater (to me at least) seems like sucking up.

Lastly, one of the most important questions in the interview will be a seemingly offhand question. At some point towards the end you’ll be asked “do you have any questions for me?” This is your chance to show you’ve read the viewbook and other materials, have really thought about yourself as a Georgetown student.

My SO does interviews for his Ivy and frankly he thinks most “kids today” are way more impressive than when he attended. Be prepared to speak about a project or ECs you have worked on and why they intrigued you or you enjoyed them. I wouldn’t recommend the sweater. The impression I get from him is more that they are looking out for kids on the ends of the bell curve. The interviewer will likely ask if YOU have any questions for him/her…so be prepared with a couple (while recognizing some stuff has certainly changed). Best!

Edited to add his usually are about thirty minutes.
