Georgetown major?

I am really interested in film production, but know that Georgetown only has a Film & Media Studies minor. I am leaning towards Journalism or English now. Was wondering everyone’s opinions?

if film production is what you want to study, georgetown might not be the place for you!
however, if georgetown is what you’re set on, know that your major does not decide what you do absolutely, and that there are many different ways to start a career in anything, especially the film industry.

Thank you, @heyitslainey <3

This might be helpful to you: Georgetown’s career center has a listing of where people with different majors are working right now: https://careercenter.georgetown.edu/career-exploration/exploring-your-options/what-can-i-do-with-my-major/english.html

There’s also a Theater and Performance Studies major, which might be closer to what you’re looking for? https://careercenter.georgetown.edu/career-exploration/exploring-your-options/what-can-i-do-with-my-major/theater-and-performance.html

You can also look around at other majors to see if Georgetown’s program would fit you well. Like the previous poster said, Georgetown’s not the best place to do film production, but you can still tailor your coursework towards film studies if that’s what you want to do.

Thank you so much, @masquerade98 !! Very helpful

There is an alum group called the Georgetown Entertainment and Media Alliance for Hoyas who have ended up in those fields. It’s a much bigger group than one might think, given the dearth of related majors. For example, one of my classmates ended up co-producing a movie (a farcical Georgetown-themed comedy) in his time on campus, headed off to USC to study film after that, and last I heard was writing for 20th Century Fox (https://alumni.georgetown.edu/alumni-stories/gusa-student-government-alumni)
