Yes, I got into the General Studies Program at NYU, I got the letter 2 days ago (postmark February 16). I've read the FAQ and the little booklet that came in the packet, but can anyone tell me what this program is all about (especially if they have personal experience or have a friend who attended)?

But a 1330 isn't terrible particulary with a high rank. You've got a chance at G-town.

CGS is pretty much a remedial 2 year program that prepares the student for NYU. In essense, it is a "guaranteed transfer." So, therefore you weren't accepted to the actual University, but you will be allowed to transfer in after the first 2 years, in which they prepare you for NYU.

I had an inkling about that being it...I just wish that the NYU staff would be more straightforward in telling applicants this.

I just got your e-mail, CCRunner. How ignoble it is to make fun of my GSP acceptance in a private e-mail while showing a gentlemanly demeanor, a false front, on this thread. Mind you that I got into NYU based on my SAT before I retook it recently (the scores which I sent to GWU, Georgetown, Princeton, and Harvard), 720, 560, 660, a full 150 points less than the score Georgetown and the others are seeing.

Vespasian -

Your SAT M+V is below the 25th percentile for Harvard and Princeton so it's very unlikely you'll be accepted at either school. Your M+V is also below the 50th perctentile for Georgetown - I've got the range running from 1290 to 1480 with the median at 1385 - so it's also unlikely you'll be accepted there. Your class rank and writing may help, but most likely it won't make any difference. On the other hand, you should get into Binghamton, Stony Brook, and GWU.

I didn't email you, what the heck are you talking about?

lol alrite guys, We all know that the SAT is very important but his 1330, even though theres a 580, does not mean he's automatically rejected.
That aside, I do believe you have a decent shot at Gtown but getting accepted into Princetown and Harvard is unlikely even for those with 2200+. The reason, I think you have a shot a Gtown though is that your ranked 1st or 2nd in your class (If I understood your ranking, I may not have),and getting validictorian is at least something. Anyway, Good Luck!

I have no illusions about definitely getting into Princeton and Harvard....It's been more of a hopeful reach kind of thing with those two schools; if I get into either or both, I shall light the Paschal flame myself in place of my pastor at Easter and praise God's glory lol. However, I still do believe that I have at least a decent chance at Georgetown. From what I've been able to ascertain from teachers, my guidance counselor, and several other people who know me well, who personally know my abilities, interests, and activities, I have a good chance at Georgetown. I don't know, maybe it's all a vast conspiracy against me, or possibly those with whom I interact every day at school, with whom I have a close relationship, are all inept, even after having had 30 years or more experience at teaching and counseling.
I don't mean to sound adversarial, but even though my SAT is 50 points below the median at Georgetown, from the approximately half a dozen or so reputable sources which I'm I've read, you can still get into the school that you want without serious problems, provided that everything else is in order (GPA, ranking, et cetera) and that you show interest in the school. The SAT is not a fine-tuning mircrometer, as I've read from Princeton University's own website; rather, it is an ably-wielded ax for discerning general levels of ability. I hope that everyone on collegeconfidential starts to realize this. People with "low" SAT's have gotten into Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and other top schools (not just minorities), while those with perfect scores have been denied access to NON Ivy schools (this happened to someone from my school who graduated several years ago).

Vespasian, where in the world did u get the idea that I emailed you? I definitely never did. That's really weird.

Hello Vespasian,

CCRunner123 has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - Georgetown University, Harvard, Princeton. - in the What Are My Chances? forum of College Discussion.

Now, unless you've been hacked (in which case I suggest that you get some better internet protection software), I'd say that you're not being very straightforward about this.

hahahahhahaha.... loser

Judging from the fact that in your second-to-last thread you had 95 posts, and the Homo erectus who so loquaciously expressed that I was a "hahahahhahaha.... loser" has 96, I posit that senior200610 is another of your aptly inconseqential aliases on collegeconfidential.

Why would you want to continue to carry on your obscenely infantile harrassment? Just leave this thread alone, and let people who are actually interested in constructive criticism and adult discussion proceed unencumbered with your dredgery.

I'm sorry for those of you who actually want to have an interesting, informative, and helpful discussion, and I thank those of you who have been curteous, even if you have stated that I don't have much of a chance at Georgetown; as long as they're civil and backed up by well thought-out logic or reasoning, comments are welcome.

WOW How much time do you spend looking in the Thesaurus for all those amazing words that you use?

I don't. After reading hours upon hours of internet articles, your vocabulary can become very enlarged. Additionally, having four years of Latin sends a whole wave of Latinate vocabulary into your memory (over half of all English words are directly derived from Latin).

Haha, senior is NOT me.

For someone with such a large vocabulary, you sure are stupid.

Does your not being him nullify your proven lying ways?

I think they're all reaches, but Georgetown is more likely to accept you than HYP.

how somebody who talks about "pusillanimous abasement" and "undeserved airs of superiority" can possibly think they aren't being arrogant/self-important/verbose is absolutely beyond me.

What does pusillanimous mean: )?
