Dictionary definition: cowardly, lacking courage.

Interesting. I just learned a new word ^_^.

On the other hand, I'm very interested in reading the OP's essay, in hope of garnering some new vocabulary.

i second ccrunner on this... it's pointless to use big words unless you're saying something intelligent, and from what i can tell nothing said on this board has been particularly earth-shattering.

Vespasian, you spelled "courteous" wrong

UH OH!!!!!

It's not arrogance; it's how I defend myself from unwarranted attacks. Some people do so through physical fighting, some do so through childish insults; I defend myself by discourse.

Pusillanimous is basically "petty-minded" and "spiteful", from the root animus, "mind,", "spirit", with that modifier at the beginning.

I never aimed to state anything "earth-shattering" in this thread; I started out simply wanted some opinions, not hateful vitriol. When faced with such, I respond.

And, no, "courteous" is spelled exactly as I have it. I wish that you would at least consult a dictionary when trying to point out petty mistakes that aren't even existent.

I'm tired of having this thread hijacked by some of you who seek only to engorge yourselves with attention and deprive others of meaningful, civil conversation. The next time another such comment is made, I'm reporting you and directly appealing to the moderators about this matter.

Pusillanimous does not mean "lacking courage"?! The dictionary.com says so though.

Petty-minded and spiteful are synonyms for one who lacks courage (the cowardly generally possess those two qualities); I was going simply by the combination of the root and the prefix, lol.

"Pusillanimous is basically "petty-minded" and "spiteful", from the root animus, "mind,", "spirit", with that modifier at the beginning."

Never. Speak. Again.

wow. i have one book to recommend. The Elements of Style.

pu·sil·lan·i·mous ( P ) Pronunciation Key (pys-ln-ms)

It says no where that it means "spiteful".

Rejected from H,P, and G.

andw313, are you the andrew I know? bird flu? ^_^ cc is small.

I see that some among you are wasting your lives away by denigrating me, being little grammarians and nit-picking only when it's convenient, as in not bringing up the numerous typos made by some of you, which you won't point out, but will gladly take the one grammatical error I made and beat it to death in some sad attempt at redemption for your thinly-veiled, vicious attacks. All you cause is pain and angst. I know now that I've fallen into the trap of CCRunner and select others when they set their flame bait (I only came across the term today when researching it), but I didn't know before; so I took the bait and fed their passions. I shall not fall for it any longer.

Vespasian, you are a
douche (doosh)
n.
1. A stream of water, often containing medicinal or cleansing agents, that is applied to a body part or cavity for hygienic or therapeutic purposes.
2. The application of a douche.
3. An instrument for applying a douche.

I am going to tell you right now that you will not get into Princeton or Harvard. Your only hope is the remedial NYU transfer program. First, people that are accepted with ability to write well also score just as well on the math. I, myself, received an 800v/790m/800w last time I took it and have a published book. I am not even applying to either. My parents are both graduates from Yale and Stanford, and they dont speak like how you post. I regularly talk to their friends from college that don't speak like that. So please, put your thesaurus down and pick up your remedial math book so that you can hopefully get into NYU you pompous ass. Georgetown will probably just **** on your application. They are quite stat oriented for their position in the college hierarchy.

HAHAHAHAHA...smoke&mirrors!!!!
HA.HA.HA.
That, I do think, is the highlight on my night!
AHHHH..hAHAHAHA.....crack me up

vespasian, people make typos because they type fast and don't see the point in editing because, unlike you, they're not trying to impress anyone.

on the other hand, people like you make spelling mistakes ("curteous") and usage mistakes ("pusillanimous") and then stubbornly stick by them.

and i'm wasting my time denigrating you because people who very well may be intelligent but who waste their time with a thesaurus in hand and a stick up their butt really **** me off.

ahaha....NYU is not a safety. Out of 35,000 ppl, a cocky kid like u will get rejected...and plus as livintup pointed up, how do u noe ur decisions? oh u GSPed? .....

Hideandseek, I don't think I know you. What are you talking about?
