When I graduate from high school, I will have 3 associate’s degrees from my local community college in Web Design, Computer Programming, and Computer Networking. Will this be seen as bad to colleges like Georgia Tech? Will they think I do nothing but study? (which isn’t true) I got these degrees because I had a desire to. I live in Georgia, so I am an in-state student.
I would apply as a freshman and not as a transfer student.
Have you done anything outside of academics? If you did not get involved in any other way, I could see the myopic focus on taking a bunch of classes hurting you in the eyes of some admissions officers. Georgia Tech and other selctive colleges like myopic people if they’ve done things like made the all-state band or won the national science fair, but it’s not as convincing a case if it’s just a matter of having taken a bunch of classes at a local college without getting involved in research or in any other forms of involvement in your community.
However, if you got involved in and especially if you had leadership roles in other things (work, sports, community service, clubs, band, etc…, etc…), then no, having the extra coursework would not hurt you at all and would simply make the academic portion of your application that much stronger.
