That’s amazing, I hope it isn’t a long shot
We know a handful of people in state who have gotten off the waitlist in the last couple of years, so it does happen! I think it just boils down to who they are looking for to fill the holes in their class. If you’re on the waitlist, you’re academically qualified to be there.
I guess at this point, they won’t offer a transfer as it might be too late for the arrangement of other colleges? If they offer transfer, they probably would have done that already. So the only chances are: off the wait list, or not?
No. In the past they have offered a transfer pathway to applicable students who don’t get off the waitlist. Not everyone on the waitlist will qualify. They won’t offer it until the waitlist is closed.
Last year my son got off the waitlist on Tuesday and moved in on Sunday!
Thanks. I just checked the transfer pathway, and looks like there are conditions/limitations. I’ve heard of people talking about studying in CC for 2 years then transfer into GT lot of times. I am wondering if that was because all of them were offered the transfer option. Actually I am wondering outside these transfer pathway options, will there be many spots/spaces for random transfer (means not qualify for transfer pathway and wasn’t given this option)?
So does anyone know how many people got off the waitlist atm? The commitment deadline is next Monday and I barely heard anyone getting off the waitlist. Is there not an early wave of waitlist acceptance?
I went through last year’s discussion and read up until July here are the dates waitlists came out, this is probably not all that helpful for this year but I thought it was interesting.
April 4 (Saturday)
April 9 (Thursday)
April 29 (Wednesday)
May 12 (Tuesday)
July 10 (Friday)
July 13 (Monday)
Interesting but agree who knows for this year! With what is going on in India and Pakistan, visas may be impossible to come by for some international students. With so many students applying to so many more schools, yield is even more unpredictable than usual. We are trying to be flexible but it is hard as a senior where you are committed but still in flux! Hoping for good news - and quickly
There were kids that got off the waitlist for GT last year right before freshmen move in in August. . . Glad I have such a happy go lucky senior - mom is the one who is stressing!
@VirginiaBelle - Haha…me too. I have a happy senior as well but me (mom) is worried. Wishing all the seniors the very best. I heard this saying which is great - “Everything will be fine in the end. If its not fine, its not the end yet.”
With twin boys, we are in a precarious situation. One has accepted Berkeley, while the other is waitlisted at Berkeley and Ga Tech, among others. While both were admitted to UIUC CS, the waitlisted twin found Champaign to be too lonesome, and is planning to accept UT (undeclared major). If Ga Tech or Berkeley works out, that will be great, for it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to shift to CS from undeclared at UT even if one has a 4.0 GPA. Good luck to all waitlisted at Ga Tech.
Good luck to your son! From what I understand, Berkeley has significant waitlist movement every year, and I presume this year will be no exception! This is the longest admissions season ever😂
Son still waiting, committed to UCI CS yesterday, opening up spots at seven other great places. Maybe tons of GT admits will also have many great choices and decline GTs offer opening many spots for the waitlisters. Son would likely accept GT or UCLA if they come knocking. Zot zot zot!
do you guys think some offers may come today? there are usually a few waves before commitment day
at this point, I feel like we have to wait until after May 3rd.
Just wanted you to know that my son just committed to UIUC, opening up one UCLA CS spot. He was oos for UCLA.
Just saw GT class of 2025 is 93 percent of goal and climbing per Rick Clark on Twitter.
Seen that too, its pretty much curtains for the waitlist.
Likely. Although if the travel ban stays in effect there may be more summer melt than usual.
