It’s unpredictable, last year figure was 632, but the year before was 72, and the year prior to that was only 21!!!
My DS is waitlisted (OOS) after being deferred. Any idea on when people will start coming off waitlist this year. Seems like no news so far.
The recent email said after May 3. No one has come off yet from what I hear.
I have a query, hope someone in this group can answer…
Is it normal to commit to a school before May while waiting to hear from waitlists from other schools like GTech / CMU/Cornell etc ? since delaying may mean loosing spot in advance courses (if one is taking credits of AP) that are on First Come First Serve basis as well as good Spots in housing.
Can someone suggest how do freshmen network for housing room mates while in the dilemma of multiple waitlists specially if they go on until June ?
Do the Universities know if a candidate has committed to another school and so then ignore them for the waitlist spot ?
Yes. Definitely commit somewhere else even if on a waitlist. Waitlists are long shots. Plan on going where you commit. Pay commitment deposit, dorm, deposit, look for roommate. Get excited about where you deposit. Other schools won’t know if you commit.
And as far as GT goes, you won’t lose class spots. Registration doesn’t happen until commitment deadline. Housing at this point is likely all comparable. I did read this morning that several top schools including CMU are already using their waitlist.
@VirginiaBelle - where did you read about waitlists being used?
So I came across this article today… From what they say it seems waitlists may not be used heavily this year, given 25% seats are occupied by gap year students.
is there any way to see the number that deferred admission/were gap year
That is a very general article. Waitlist are already moving lots of places. GT gap students I read somewhere (don’t ask me where it was last year when requests were made) number around 100 to 200. Some only took a gap semester and started in the spring. Georgia Tech has increased its freshman enrollment by 150. I can’t imagine they would’ve offered so many places on their waitlist if they didn’t believe they were going to have to turn to it a fair amount. Rick Clark has been saying for months that wait lists will play a big factor in this year’s admission.
Waitlists are always a gamble, and some of this may be me just being hopeful
i cant help but think they would’ve accepted more people this year just because the waitlist was such a mess last year (they were accepting off the waitlist in early august last year)
thoughts?
They accepted roughly 100 more people this year. This is in contrast to uga which accepted 2000 more.
My son’s good friend got off the waitlist yesterday for mechanical engineering Hoping they need business applicants, but it’s such a small small program. We are praying hard!!
OOS or in state? thanks
In state
Does anyone know if GT considered your alternative applied major during WL process (and admission process)?
No idea. I did hear from an experienced parent that the waitlist offers seem to go in groups by major. From all I have read, most schools try to hit a certain balance of instate/out of state/international. So essentially you have to check the boxes that they need (right major, right category of residency, etc.).
Should we send a letter of continued interest? Does anyone know how to improve the chances of getting off the waitlist?
They specifically say do not send any information and that they will only consider what is contained on the waitlist form and your application. My son has a significant update and I asked two separate college counselors about this and both said they will not consider the update and to not send it. Hopefully that is the case that they are not considering additional information. We are following the rules, and hope we don’t regret it! It is my son’s first choice and his friend that got in was supposed to be his roommate at their second choice, which is a big bummer needless to say.
The friend did not send in any updates. I am just hoping they need a business major from Georgia, and decide that soon:crossed_fingers:t3:His brother is at Tech and it would be fantastic to have them in the same spot.
is there a certain day of the week/time tech releases waitlist decisions?
