Good news Navy football fans.

As of press time this morning, Paul Johnson was still the head coach at the Naval Academy.

Johnson arrived at Ricketts Hall around 8 a.m. this morning and was due to eventually meet with athletic director Chet Gladchuk. Johnson had not called a meeting of the Navy football players, a strong indication that his departure was not imminent....

Heard on the News here this morning that PJ was in Atlanta yesterday to talk to GT. Mixed feelings on this as both a GT and Navy Fan :(

^^^^^
I hope that Chet Gladchuck steps up to the plate and makes sure that Paul Johnson doesn't leave Navy. The biggest threat is probably SMU, if they are willing to offer $2 million per year as reported.

Round and round it goes, where it stops nobody knows.

Navy's Paul Johnson has clearly climbed aboard the coaching carousel and is spinning his way around the country to cities that contain schools with vacancies.

The Capital has been attempting to track Johnson's movements over the past three days through constant contact with reliable sources and major media outlets in Annapolis, Atlanta, Dallas, Raleigh-Durham, N.C., and elsewhere....

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Even if he's going back to my beloved GA I don't want him to leave us! This is upsetting.

GA ... I may be hallucinating and bleeding B & Gold, but ... I believe there is the proverbial snowball's chance of PJ going to Dallas and SMU. Aside from a secure financial future, which is nothing to scoff at, there is zilch future at SMU. What a Shakesperean tragedy that would be, imo.

Duke ... well that's one of the world's great universities that has a very sporadic future in football. It's not like bball where a handful of bright kids who can hoop will lead you outta the wilderness. In football, it takes 20 or 30 of them ... every season. Even Spurrier was an essential flop there. No way, Duke.

Now to a more serious contender ... GA Tech. Right city, right conference, right home place, right resources, right culture to invest that which would be needed, and right "mediocrity" of athletic history. This one scares me.

The reality, barring a monumental gift deliverered in person by Santa Claus, PJ is gone ... either this season or shortly. But ... I believe he will wait for an even better position than any of these 3. And his legend and lustre will only grow in the glory of leading not one, but 3 SAs during a time of war. He is smart, and he knows his future is secured, and it's only a matter of when he wants to cash in his stock certificate.

And that's about all I have to say ... about thaaat!

Your pal,
FG ;)

P.S. Besides ... where else could he go with entertainment like that of the A/N game. You know, life IS like a box of chocolates, and PJ has a 2lber. of chocolate covered cherries coming his way ...

Ah, Atlanta...the land of golf 12 months a year, home of Coca-Cola, cheapest housing prices in the southeast, no snow to shovel, ....what's not to love??

Nightmare traffic only gonna get worse ... try and get to Buckhead ... from Buckhead; ticks, lots of 'em; crime out the gazoo; summers that are hottern hades; housing costs that are skyrocketing and plenty pricey if you're anywhere you wanna be; a commute from hell from virtually any of those areas to GT; public schools among the worst in the nation; no time to play any golf especially if he's coaching at GT; sink holes galore; traffic out the gazoo; fleas; cockroaches; mosquitoes; loads of poison ivy; cudzoo; dirty rivers; red clay; Jimmy Carter is the state dog; did I mention traffic?

Beauty's in the eye of the beholder and some may see Hotlanta as the land of opportunity, but aside from USC name one chronically top football power that is an urban university like GT? Oh, I forgot ... SMU, right? ;) And name one pervasive engineering school that has virtually no cushie undergrad programs that is a football power? There are many reasons other than the fact that PJ has not been there that GT has been a football wasteland for the past 40 seasons and counting.

Whistle Pig: I will give you a pass on almost everything you say, as there is plenty of truth. If you look at Georgia as a whole, yes, our school scores are abyssmal. HOWEVER, the metro area has great schools. Our scores (only way to compare) are among some of the best. I am currently in an online graduate program with teachers all over the nation (whose states rate way higher on those reports) and they have to make due with such mediocrity. My school system has so much to offer, including all the latest technology. So yes, the traffic is horrible, the heat/humidity stiffling, the bugs horrific; but please, do not attack our schools. Just to brag...my son, a product of those schools, has an appointment to West Point and is waiting for one to arrive from Navy. The other son won a scholarship to study abroad for a year. Yeah, I have great kids--but they had/have great schools.

That's great news. Really. I'd heard that GA was investing major bucks in that area. btw, I love going to Hotlanta, as long as I don't have to drive. lol

And ... you've obviously some exceptional young people coming from your gene pool! Especially he who awaits the exciting news from Canoe U. It sounds like he's one who'd add to the glorious reputation of a glorious place.

All the luck! See you on the yard.

But while we're in the spirit ... maybe send PJ a note and tell him how "awful" Atlanta really is. ;) Here's hoping that USNA gets a Christmas present of news that PJ's staying for at least one more go round ...

He's a magnificent coach, for sure.

Atlanta traffic is not for the faint of heart. Another side note about test scores: nearly everyone in Georgia (for some unknown reason) takes the SAT. It doesn't matter if they plan to attend college or not, they take the darn thing! This makes our test scores terrible! Most states only have college bound kids take the test. Here is the story: http://www.11alive.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=43320

If you get down this way, look us up--we'll show your yankee arse some real southern hospitality = )

It's a deal! We've great friends in Marietta and in Rome (Berry College ... one neat place!). And when you're coming to the Promised Land, here in the mountains of PA, you've got a friend and a hot-n-a-cot waiting for you. We'll leave the light on!

Tommy B.

We LOVE those black eyed peas, okra, and salty ham bisquits! With a side of grits!

WP I work in Buckhead, just off Peachtree - Drive in from the north metro, outside the perimeter - traffic no worse than any other big city. "a commute from hell from virtually any of those areas to GT" LOL Hubbie drives to Tech - not a bad commute at 30 minutes from Cobb county and he has been doing it for 18 years! Neighborhood where Basketball Coach Hewitt lives - housing very affordable and commute at most 15 minutes.

Metro schools are producing some of the best and brightest. Private schools in the Buckhead area are some of the best in the nation - the private my Mid attended typically has over 30% of the graduating class National merit finalists/semifinalists and commended students. He and 26 of his classmates were recognized by National Merit out of a class of 100. Had LOA to Navy by early October Appointment in November. National AP scholar with 12 AP's and an ave score of 4.75 And you say the schools are bad! Suburban Cobb, DeKalb (produced the likes of Zerbin Singleton - validictorian of his HS class and now Brigade Commander) and Gwinnett schools excellent schools. Fulton is getting better every year. The Rest of Georgia is what brings GA down.

Now onto the heat and humidity - no worse than Annapolis in the summer. But at least we don't have a constant wind! My runner hates the winds that come off the bay in both summer and winter!

Urban Campus - when was the last time your were on Tech's campus. Yes it is in MidTown but everything they have done on campus makes you feel like your in the burbs. Certainly not all concrete like most urban campuses. Lots of green space now. When Master Plan is completed it will not be what you deem as an "Urban Campus" Yes in Midtown but certainly not a "bad area" since techwood homes is no more.

""mediocrity" of athletic history" "GT has been a football wasteland for the past 40 seasons and counting" LOL last football national championship 1990, typically a great baseball team and usually a very good basketball team. National Champions in Women's Tennis for 2006.

Sink holes galore - one major one that was a travesty, None since 1994 only a mess of potholes on the road but our mayor will go down in history for fixing the potholes. Jimmy Carter - maybe not the best president but a good person, certainly does not need to be described as stated above.

Tech has it's own private golf/ country club I'm sure a membership would be in the deal. Great place for his kids to use!

Cat has never gotten fleas, never had a problem with roaches - ants yes roaches no - mosquitos no worse than "up north"

I'll give you a pass on the red dirt, dirty rivers, kudzo but that is about it.

Love Atlanta - Love GT - not a grad - but it pays the bills so to speak, and Love going to many different sports events on campus.

My Mid loves Atlanta - it's a great city. Have a huge number of USNA Alumni

Will say I certainly would hate to see PJ leave Navy but if he is going to go let it be GT.

Well.. Lola told me you all were talking about my city so thought I would say Hello to my old friends.. one whom I owe a phone call..

sooo HEYYY YA'LL :)

I grew up in ATL and I loved it. I went to an amazing public school and was offered opportunities i wouldn't have been given anywhere else. Yea, it's hott. The mosquitoes are terrible and so are the ants. But it's a really fun city and I like it. The traffic is terrrriblleeeeee. Get a hybrid. It's the only way.
But don't bash on ATL. It's the ****, yo.

Well, as my granma always told me, "Ya can even get used to hangin' "

Hey MOM2LOLA ... I knew my scurilous comments about your humble commode would draw you out! ;) Where and how have you been, girlie? Your rants and raves have been missed on the old party line. Anyone else here remember the "party line." We were on with the Ruderts and Stuebgens, which should lend some insight to the culture of the community in which I was reared. Rumor had it there was a Youth for Hitler Club there in '42. jk, but it was pretty stiff necked, and our fannies rarely got "healed." But I digress ...

So how's the girl's gam? All healed by now, we hope. You'll soon be hooting and hollerin' in a week or so. Here too. We are so thankful and blessed to be part of this amazing entity, and we're just "bit" players. Can you imagine if we had leading roles.

btw, I DO enjoy Hotlanta altho Profmom, you and I could quibble about this one till the cows come home. Mine of course, not yours. You have to drive about 3 hours NW before you spy a beautiful blade of pasture grass. And then, you've only gotten to Alpharetta, right? Ah, what's one more beltway when you already have 3 of them, right? ;)

Hey, here's to PJ, our Mids during finals week 'specially, and the hope that they ALL return next semester and notta one of 'em has to chop.

Happy Sacred Season to one and all, and let us pause to remember all those blessed sailors and soldiers who suffered at Pearl Harbor some 66 years ago this morning. Praise the Lord for Midway!

Interesting facts about GA that Whistle Pig might not know:

-Everyone has air conditioning
-Most people don't go around saying, "Why, fiddle dee dee."
-OTP, you can find many cows. Who needs cows (or wants them??) ITP?
-There is a kangaroo farm 1.5 hrs from ATL
-Pest control companies keep bugs at bay
-The Fox, The Alliance, The High, The Bremen
-The Braves (but not this year!)
-Telecommuting
-HOV lanes
-Gwinnett Transit to Downtown=no traffic to fight
-All great cities have some little issues, i.e. traffic
-no scrapple here!
-no funny accents!

We have a few other sayings down here: 1. Save your Confederate dollars; the south will rise again. and 2. Fergit? Hell!

BTW...I was born in Detroit...but thank God daily I was part of the fortunate GRITS: girls raised in the south!!

HAHA...it's been fun giving you a hard time!

"You have to drive about 3 hours NW before you spy a beautiful blade of pasture grass." another LOL Have you been to Cobb, North Fulton and Cherokee Counties some of the best horse farms around. Plenty of green grass to go around - that is when we have rain. Try Atlanta in the spring you will not find a more beautify place - azaleas, dogwoods, red buds, Chinese Cherries to name a few that all blossom at the same time. Any way WP we could debate this until your cows come home - our horses are already home - some are even home in Buckhead! ;)

I'm a truly widwestern/northern girl - but love my adopted city.

Lola, JR, JackTraveler and soon to be son of mom3boys...The kids all love Atlanta! Tons for young people here, lots to do and besides, they all got excellent educations!

Like I said a bit bitter sweet if PJ comes south but better here for all of us Georgians than at SMU!

Hey JackTraveler - where in the ATL did you go to school? What year are you? PM me if that is better. Glad to see another Georgian come aboard :)

Remember Pearl Harbor... I'm off to the History Center for their annual Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day - about 50 Pearl Harbor Vets speak to school age kids - yep part of our Atlanta School programs!

Southerners are a patriotic bunch :)

Well, if all y'all transplants love Atlanta now, you shoulda been there back in the 60's & 70's! (and it still had a "small town" atmosphere in the early 80's when I was at Emory & Sigma Chi Lil Sis at Tech. Sure has changed a lot - I don't think you could pay me enough to actually live there - visiting is okay (if it inclides a trip to The Varsity!).

Here's some info I keep on hand (sent to me by one who still lves there). All meant in fun...
ATLANTA EXPLAINED:

"This is for anyone who lives in Atlanta, Georgia, has ever lived in Atlanta, has ever visited Atlanta, ever plans to visit Atlanta, knows anyone who already lives in Atlanta, or knows anyone who has ever heard of Atlanta.

Atlanta is composed mostly of one-way streets. The only way to get out of downtown Atlanta is turn around and start over when you reach Greenville, South Carolina.

All directions start with, "Go down Peachtree" and include the phrase, "When
you see the Waffle House." Except that in Cobb County, where all directions begin with, "Go to the Big Chicken." Peachtree Street has no beginning and no end and is not to be confused with: Peachtree Circle, Peachtree Place, Peachtree Lane, Peachtree Road, Peachtree Parkway, Peachtree Run, Peachtree Terrace, Peachtree Avenue, Peachtree Commons, Peachtree Battle Peachtree Corners, New Peachtree, Old Peachtree, West Peachtree, Peachtree-Dunwoody, Peachtree-Chamblee, Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.

Atlantan's only know their way to work and their way home. If you ask anyone for directions, they will always send you down Peachtree. Atlanta is the home of Coca-Cola. Coke's all they drink there so don't ask for any
other soft drink unless Coca-Cola makes it. Even if you want something other
than a Coca-Cola, it's still called Coke.

The gates at Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport are about 32 miles
away from the Main Concourse, so wear sneakers and pack a lunch.

The 8 am rush hour is from 6:30 to 10:30 AM. The 5 PM rush hour is from
3:00 to 7:30 PM. Friday's rush hour starts Thursday afternoon and lasts through 2 am Saturday. Only a native can pronounce Ponce De Leon Avenue, so do not attempt the Spanish pronunciation. People will simply tilt their heads to the right and stare at you. The Atlanta pronunciation is "pawntz duh LEE-awn."

And yes, they have a street named simply, "Boulevard."

The falling of one raindrop causes all drivers to mmediately forget all traffic rules. If a single snowflake falls, the city is paralyzed for three days and it's on all the channels as a news flash every 15 minutes for a week. Overnight, all grocery stores will be sold out of milk, bread, bottled water, toilet paper, and beer.

I-285, the loop that encircles Atlanta, which has a posted speed limit of 55 mph (but you have to maintain 80 mph just to keep from getting run over), is known to truckers as "The Watermelon 500."

Don't believe the directional markers on highways: I-285 is marked "East" and "West" but you may be going North or South. The locals identify the direction by referring to the "Inner Loop" and the "Outer Loop."
If you travel on Hwy 92 North, you will actually be going southeast.

Never buy a ladder or mattress in Atlanta. Just go to one of the interstates and you will soon find one in the middle of the road.

The last thing you want to do is give another driver the finger, unless your car is armored, your trigger finger is itchy, and your AK-47 has a full clip.

Possums sleep in the middle of the road with their feet in the air.

There are 5,000 types of snakes and 4,998 live in Georgia.

There are 10,000 types of spiders. All 10,000 live in Georgia, plus a couple no one has seen before.

If it grows, it sticks. If it crawls, it bites. If you notice a vine trying to wrap itself around your leg, you have about 20 seconds to escape, before you are completely captured and covered with Kudzu, another ill-advised "import," like the Carp, Starling, English Sparrow, and other "exotic wonders."

It's not a shopping cart, it's a buggy. "Fixinto" is one word (I'm fixinto go to the store). Sweet Tea is appropriate for all meals and you start drinking
it when you're 2 years old.

"Jeet?" is actually a phrase meaning "Did you eat?"

"Momma-nem" means: How's Mother and all of the other children and other
members of the family doing.

If you understand these jokes, forward them to your friends from Atlanta,
Georgia and those who just wish they were.

Lordy, I love Jawja!

Yall come back, ya hear!!"
HA! Love that "Atlanta Explained"!! Thanks for posting it..
Born and raised in the ATL.. but in the 70s and 80s :)
Nothing like it used to be but still my hometown and a great town to raise a family.

OUR MIDS WILL BE HOME IN A WEEK!!! Happy Holidays! I hear Santa!
