Getting Accepted into the CSE Major

I am going to transfer to Ohio State University from Florida in about a year. I already know I have a great shot at getting accepted into the university as a pre-major student. However, there are some requirements I can’t meet until I am already attending OSU. What are my chances of getting into the CSE major? I will paste some info on my current credentials down below.

First, the long intro describing my credentials.

“I am currently an undergraduate student finishing up my AA degree in Florida with a concentration in Computer Science/Software Engineering. I currently have about a year left, and I currently have a 3.4 GPA. I speak English, French, and some Spanish, and have made the Dean’s honors list several times. I have several extracurricular activities that I have been apart of such as volunteer beach cleanups and volunteering at the Humane Society. I also have some collegiate extracurricular activities such as being Vice President of the UAA (Urban Arts Association) at my college, and being the SGA chairman of the UAA at my college. I also have at least several professors willing to write me Letters of Recommendation to the universities I apply to. In my off time, I spend my time researching the field of Nanotechnology, and am wishing to get a paper that I am currently writing published. I am also working with a few of my professors at my current institution regarding the research as well.”

For getting into the CSE major, you need to have a 3.2 GPA, completing the pre-requisite classes (I’m assuming you probably have most of them done except for the two Fundamentals of Engineering courses), and having 15 hours at Ohio State.

Just a heads-up, there have been talks of increasing the GPA requirement to get into CSE as SO MANY people are in the major. I believe it’s the most populous engineering major now.

Since you most likely have every pre-req complete besides your two FE courses, you’ll most likely be taking some CSE courses. As a pre-major, you will automatically be put onto the waitlist in all of these classes, since they only guarantee spots for CSE majors, and these classes fill up. This means there’s a chance you won’t get into these classes until you get into CSE.

I can tell you that there is no immediate plan of increasing GPA for CSE/CIS admissions beyond 3.2. They give 1 year notice for a change, so it is safe to say that change will not happen in the next 1.5 year at least.
