I am a US citizen living abroad. I have read that MIT generally take people who have won medals in Math, Physics etc. olympiads. But as i am a US citizen living i a foreign country I am not allowed to appear for such exams. So would MIT consider my situation?
I very passionate about math and physics and I also believe that given the opportunity I could have been in the team for the international olympiads.
There is no requirement to have wonany kind of medal to be accepted to MIT. Read the results threads and you’ll see that there are plenty of those accepted that did not win medals and those that did win medals did not get accepted.
@astrofan check if you can represent the US for the olympiad(s) you are looking at. For example, if I remember correctly, US citizens can represent the US IMO team, even if they live elsewhere. I’m not sure if this is actually correct so you might want to check.
Of course, you’d have to qualify for said olympiad first.
As HPuck35 said, olympiad participation is not necessary for MIT admission.
