I was wondering about the extent to which not sending SAT Subject Tests would affect my chances of getting in. For what’s it’s worth, I have a 3.8 UW and 2180 superscored. My ECs are above average and my recommendations are solid. I think my essays can give me an advantage as well. JI took two SAT Subject Tests but I wasn’t happy with my scores and I realize that it’s too late now, so I’m worried about if this will really hurt my chances of getting accepted.

From the website: “SAT II Subject Tests are optional. If you would like to highlight a talent in a specific area, you are welcome to submit SAT Subject Tests for consideration with your application. Subject Tests, particularly in foreign languages and the sciences, may be used for placement during the first year. Click here for additional information regarding advanced placement.”

Given the increasing selectivity of BC, as well as the stats of many who got in (the majority of whom seemed to send them), it seems that not sending them might not only not help me, but slightly hurt me. I’m hoping I find out about more of those who were accepted without sending them.

FriendlyNerd888, say you are trying to get into CSOM, you are going to study business. Let’s assume you had 740 in your SAT math section. What does SAT 2 Math test give you? And what would be advantage of having 800 in SAT 2 Physics? What’s the point? SAT 2 may be helpful for engineering or some particular areas of study. In general they are meaningless. That is particularly true of Math and English.

That’s a fair point. I am, however, applying to the Carroll School of Management, which I’m sure is more competitive than CSOM. Do you think that applying there will lead to a greater emphasis on my strength in math and thus SAT IIs?

You do realize CSOM is the Carroll School of Management

Oh sorry I meant CAS instead of CSOM. What I’m asking is if the more competitive nature of CSOM compared to CAS will lead to a greater reliance on optional things such as the SAT IIs.

Hi @FriendlyNerd888 - we eliminated the SAT II Subject requirement this summer because we felt, in the admission process, that we were not gaining enough valuable information by requiring it. It truly is optional, with no hidden agenda, meaning not sending SAT II Subject tests will in no way affect your admission chances.

Hope this helps!

Hello @DevlinHall208,
I was wondering if the BC admissions committee takes into consideration that I came to the U.S. 2 years ago.
I am top 10% in my school and I have good ECs and recommendation letters. However, I have a low SAT score (1600/2400). Should I still apply ?

Thank you
