I think if you feel motivated to teach yourself something, then you should give it a shot. Why not, it won’t hurt anything and you will definitely learn something. I agree with the other posters that you need to chill out and try to enjoy high school. Be a kid for a while while you have the chance.

That doesn’t mean you should forget everything and play video games all day, but you don’t want to worry about getting into college before you have even reached high school. Maybe you would feel better if you did some research about what is required and offered in your particular school district.

You might be eligible to take some night classes during the summer. A lot of high schools have classes in the evening for people that want to finish school, that dropped out of traditional high school classes. There is also the chance of going to your local cc to see if they have free classes for high school kids. If you are smart enough to want to get ahead then you are smart enough to determine what is available that will help you along the way.

I don’t have any friends anyway, so I won’t be sacrificing a life
Also, 17 ap classes?? HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE.?

Freshman year - 2 APs
Sophomore year - 3 APs
Junior year - 6 APs
Senior year - 6 APs

High school career = 17 APs

^Wow, you’re allowed to take APs in ninth grade? We’re only allowed to start taking them in 10th… Which Aps classes have you took/are taking?
@Bassoonapus: If you find any good websites for geometry, can you PM me? I’ve been thinking about studying a little bit of geometry over the summer before school starts…:)

Wow, what aps did you take during those years? Maybe I could self study…

Has anyone self studied aps in 8 grade?

Also, I picked up a ‘geometry for dummies’ book today at the library, although it seems too easy to be a whole course
Anyone have experience with dummies books?

I’m a freshman right now. I am taking AP Biology and AP Human Geography.

Try seeing if your school will accept credit from [Apex Learning](http://www.apexlearning.com/). The college prof. at mine helped me do the geometry course online while I was taking Algebra 2 in 8th grade. I didn’t know about it until the last month or so, but I finished. It’s really thorough (so don’t worry about missing any material) and it beats having to do proofs repeatedly at a real summer school. You can go at your own pace, and enjoy a free summer. Or one at college prep camp or something.
If you really are worried about attending a HYPS school, I suggest you focus on one main passion or interest, and stick with it. (ie. not becoming chairman of every single club at your school just to put on your application and in turn stressing yourself out beyond repair to the horror of your college alumni interviewer)
So say you were interested in science and wanted to be a biologist or something. Try getting an internship or be involved in a research program so that you’ll have something interesting (emphasis on interesting, not fake drama “I only realized how fortunate I had been when I witnessed the horrors going on in the homeless shelter”) to talk about for your essays. It sounds really nice, but after thousands of those essays, AOs get pretty bored with that kind of stuff.
Even though everyone tells you to relax and that the Ivies aren’t the only thing and that you should make the best out of your high school, just try to put some meaningful purpose in your life right now so you’ll be accomplished in the longer run. Remember that kid genius who was lecturing at Harvard at age 11? No, because he died at 36 and blamed his father for using him as publicity. Don’t be that kid and use your talents and knowledge for something you truly, genuinely care about.

I believe that you, OP, are contemplating skipping 7th grade, which you stated in another thread? If so, I suggest you don’t. Through your little ‘episode’ here on CC I don’t think that you are mature enough to be two grades ahead. Perhaps you act differently in real life, perhaps not.

i love your username, bassoonapus. random aside from 98.

I’m actually not that person, dfree, but thanks for calling me immature.
And @98beebee, it’s a portmanteau of ‘bassoon’ and ‘platypus,’ lol.

Lawlz go double reeds! :)

Zfonches, is Alex free? The site doesn’t really say. However, it seems really cool!

Hobbit, what courses do you plan on taking later? Also, did you have to take. Regular biology before ap bio? Your school see,ms really cool for letting you take aps during freshman year!

Yay double reeds!

Actually, I used to play oboe as well, but it gave me a headache very time I played, so I quit, lol. I also play flute clarinet ukulele piano and recorder.

Well for my sophomore year, I am taking AP Chemistry (kill me now), AP World History, and AP Environmental Sciences. No, there is no pre-requisite for AP Biology at my school.

Wow!
Do you feel that you are capable of being in the ap class without taking a regular class first? I should ask my gc why my school has a prerequisite

Well, you just need to get recommended by your eighth grade teacher. AP classes are easy bro. You need to study of course. A lot of kids are not doing too hot though hah.

That sounds awesome man lol. Do you think self studying some of the ‘easier’ ap classes in 9th grade would be a good idea?

No, you’re in 9th grade. Chill lol. You have all of high school to do that.

Actually he’s in 6th, I think.
