Getting an F in my AP Statistics class.

Hi everyone.

So, I received an F in my AP Stats class this first semester of my senior year. I feel like I’ve ruined my life, but I can’t mope around anymore. I need to be pro-active and get back on the horse. I was wondering what you guys thought about my chances of getting into some schools. Now, I’ve already been admitted into UCR, and although I’m extremely grateful for that, I can’t deny that it isn’t my absolute top choice.

I applied to UC Berkley, UCSD, UC Davis, UCI, UCSB, UCR, University of Hawaii-Manoa, University of San Francisco, Cal-State Long Beach, and SDSU (I was paranoid). I’ve only received the letter from UCR so far.

I’ve taken six AP classes and six Honors classes all throughout my high school career. I also took the AP Spanish exam and passed. I got all A’s and B’s this semester, minus the F in my math class. I am in my school’s renowned symphonic band (played first chair French horn all four years) and was in my high school’s marching band when I was in eighth grade until my senior year (the huh school band director invited me to be apart of it because he liked how I sounded on my trumpet) (was the high brass student leader for two years). I play two instruments. I was on a dance “team” for six years (traditional Mexican folklore) I’ve been apart of the Health Academy at my school al four years, I was in a bunch of clubs, I have volunteer hours, I’m an intern at my congressman’s office, I have been on the swim team all four years and I joined the water polo team during my sophomore year only. I also had pretty strong personal statements.

My SAT’s totaled a 1770 with a 520 in math, 560 in c.r., and a 690 in writing. My GPA’s at a weighted 3.7 with that F now, which is not good.

I don’t know if my chances are good…my GPA isn’t too hot and that F is really nasty.

I also want to major in peace studies/international diplomacy and minor or double major in women’s studies. This summer I went to a program (NSLC) dedicated to international diplomacy and was apart of a Model UN and got to study international relations for eleven days in Washington DC.
I don’t know if this helps, but that’s what I thought I left out.

Your chances aren’t good for any of those with an F in a first semester class. Your SAT scores will hinder you from Berkeley and probably most of the other UCs. I wouldn’t be surprised if UCR rescinded your acceptance after they see that you failed a class this past semester. Schools often do that if students get a D first semester, let alone an F. If I were you I would send a letter to UCR explaining your struggle in statistics so that you will have at least one school to fall back on if you get rejected from the others. Good luck!
