chances with two c's in chemistry and APus, but an overall 3.77 gpa/4.0?
All other stats pretty good, does it hurt a lot if i got 2 c's this semester junior year because of a heavy courseload and conflicting situation?

Obviously depends where you're looking, SATs, ECs, etc. There are way too many factors.

oh yea i meant getting into elite schools. Just pretend like i have all the other factors, but do people get into schools like hyps with one or two c grades?

Not without a major hook. Do you happen to be VERY good at football?

It'll be difficult to get into top schools with 'C's without any special hook.

lwk, what does your high school send on the transcript? Is C your final grade or just your semester grade? The reason I ask is that some high schools, like my d's, send only final grades, so if your final grade is a B, colleges wouldn't ever know that you got a C one semester. That should be your first question to your guidance counselor.

I've seen people with a D and a C or two get into HYP. It certainly doesnt destroy you right there.

Oh jeez. Oh, jeez.

If you have other respectable grades as well as a rigorous courseload and some ECs, you will not, I repeat, will not be automatically shut out of admissions to "top" colleges.

dont apply in a major remotely close to chem or US history.
hmm... would you happen to be an amazing artist?jk

did you do good on ap us if you did i think that would prove u didnt deserve the c

My $.02 is that while I think you should roll the dice and try if you truly want a certain top school, having even some C's will put you at a great statistical disadvantage.

It isn't that in the scope of things having a "C" means you are less of a person, it's just that Ivies reject thousands of kids every year with 4.0's, excellent SAT's, AND exceptional EC's (all wrapped into one person). There are many fine institutions which will be thrilled to have you, but it is most likely that they are not in the ranking league of HYPS.

There are too many other factors. Your overall GPA, with the C's, is 3.8. That's respectable, but for HYP, its low already. Now, that GPA could get you into one of the "New Ivies" easily.

Everyone here seems to want the process to make sense but it doesn't. This is a grade inflated time and there are just too many kids with straight As for a couple of Cs not to look bad. If you have a hook that the school wants no problem but if you are just one of the middle class masses applying from your local public school Cs don't work.
