I just got accepted to UCF for this Fall, however, I’m coming from out of state. I’m also an Independent and I’m 29. I know it’s possible for me to get in state status after a year, but it seems like I have to do more than just simply have an apartment in Florida. I know I’ll need to change my voter registration, license and registration, declare domicile, and cut all ties to my current state (CT). Is there any thing else I need to do? Has anyone here successfully gotten in state status for tuition purposes after moving from out of state to attend UCF?
In general, you don’t get instate for moving for education purposes. In most states you have to be a resident prior to application. But for some states they are more lenient. Florida doesn’t look to be one of them.
Residence in Florida must be as a bonafide domicile rather than for the purpose of maintaining a residence incident to enrollment at an institution of higher education.
Living, owning property, or attending school in Florida will not, in itself, establish legal residence for tuition purposes.
