Getting into Chico State (my absolute dream school

Okay, so to begin with. High School has been an upward battle for me ( especially the GPA part… ) . I had some really bad home problems the first two years of high school, plus the fact my grandparents have lived with my family, so I’ve mostly had to take care of both my grandparents and my younger brother, and my freshman and SOPHOMORE grades suffered for it, but I’ve managed to raise it junior year so i have a chance. Look, i really want to go to Chico State. Like really badly. It’s weird to say, but it’s kind of my dream school. I’m not looking to party, I just am in love with the campus, the area, and the people in the town. It’s a place i want to call home. So here we go.

So I have an weighted GPA of 3.43, with an SAT w essay score of 1210. In my 10th-11th grade, I got 17 A’s, 11 B’s, and 5 C’s.
For a better look at my chance, my 10th-11th grade CSU eligibility index score is about 3962. I’m also like, middle fifth in my class (200th in a class of 398)
Though i’m not sure they care, I think its also important to state that my courses have been pretty rigorous, Doubling up both my Math course and Science course in sophomore AND junior year, which was why it was hard to maintain A’s at times.

Some extra curricular activities ( though i’m not sure how much they will really count ) is 2 years working a job as a basketball referee, I’ve done track and field for 4 years – ( 2 time scholar athlete, 3 years varsity with all league athlete ) , 2 years of JV basketball, been singing my church choir for 3 years, and 4 years of working with my middle school/high school youth group, and various school clubs like my schools music club, 2 yrs art club, 2 yrs christian club, 2 yrs LGBT, and 2 yrs of unity club.-- Note that i don’t have any leadership roles in any of these clubs, i just love to participate. I consider my working for my youth group and choir my volunteer work, so I think I have a lot of community service hours, and I’ve also helped out i some community fun-runs and track meets.

Also, I don’t really know what to apply for my major. I mean, my dream was to apply as a biology or (my real dream) a pre nursing Major, but i don’t want to do that if that would hurt my chances of getting in (because of impaction). I’m not sure what majors would BETTER my chances, maybe applying as a business or liberal arts major? To me, GETTING IN is what’s important, like, maybe down the road I can try and transfer into the Pre Nursing Major when i’m accepted ya know? No?
Please help me, i’m gonna apply after I take the SAT for the last time, and the ACT, to try and raise that index score, but you’re thoughts and advice are appreciated.

The only thing I can say for sure is that if you are meant to be at Chico State, you will get accepted. If it really is your only choice (you will do everything possible to get in), you have to consider community college. If you get denied, then look if Chico State has a transfer admission guarantee program. Just go from there, do what you have to do, and then you should get accepted.

I do not know if you will get in. Even if Chico State was not hard to get into for Nursing and at the freshman level, nothing in life is guaranteed unless if it is explicitly stated. If you want to know your exact probability of being accepted, I highly recommend to register for Parchment.

Do I think you are meant to be at CSU? Yes, you seem very confident that Chico State is it for you. I like your statistics as well. If you are eligible for EOP, make sure to apply and explain your personal circumstances to them. CSUs (according to them) solely look on the academic side. Will fate or your G-d say yes? We won’t know until you apply and find out.

Good luck! I hope you get in as a freshman.

For any other major, you are a very well qualified applicant. Nursing is really competitive at all the CSUs for both freshman and transfer applicants.

If Chico is truly your dream school, apply undeclared and risk the major change…talk to someone in the nursing school office about what they require before heading down that path. If being a nurse is your life’s dream, be sure to apply elsewhere too. Channel Islands is probably an option.

Did you apply bio? you can easily get in. Then you will eventually be able to switch your major. People make it seem like it is very difficult to change majors (which it is in some cases), but I think colleges understand that an 18 year old may not be certain what they want to do with the rest of their life.
