Getting into law school

I am willing to be that the majority of the students at St. Mary’s are from Texas. If you are coming from NJ, taking the full ride at St. Mary’s over Georgetown is not going to do anything to help your employment prospects. Keep in mind that if you go to St. Mary’s and you are not from Texas or really strong ties to Texas, even if you graduate at the top of the class, unless you are at the tippy top, it will be hard for you to get a job.

spectrum:

the ABA now has a search function for employment.

But lst does the hard numbers-crunching, by sorting out non-legal jobs (Starbucks’ barrista), sorta-legal jobs (JD preferred, but not required), and school-funded research jobs (the school feels bad that many don’t have jobs so the school hires them back at $20/hr).

You should note that of those employed, first-year salaries tends to be bimodal. A group in Big Law coming in around $160k. The next salary hump is at $60k. There is little in between.

What about those who open up there own practice?
