<p>NHS admissions vary from school to school. Some schools are much tougher than others.</p>
<p>For my school, which is really easy to get into, you have to have at least a 3.0 UW and show that you are dedicated to the school or community (clubs, sports, volunteering, etc.) It is incredibly easy to get into here.</p>
<p>I would say ask your GC about that since it will be different for each school. ANyways for my school you need at least a UW 3.5 GPA, and some hours of community service. Also you need to write like three short essays. However, it's really easy to get in. Nothing big.</p>
<p>At my school it is pretty random and meaningless. Being in NHS means nothing except for getting to put it on your college app. And you have to go to a 'induction banquet' or something (not looking foward to that). I think 3.8 GPA is required.</p>

<p>Let's just say that the bulk of the nhs members at my schools don't have a 3.8.</p>

<p>in my class of 334, there are over 90 NHS members, pretty much just under a third of your class. not really prestigious, just another title for your resume.</p>
<p>At my school, you have to meet the gpa cutoff of 3.6 uw, and in addition, you have to be recommended by teachers in order to be considered for it. Once you are considered for it at my school, you have to fill out an application and write an essay. Then, from the application and essay, they choose who should be admitted and who shouldn't.</p>

<p>I have missed the meetings for the past three years and in this forth year, I got an application, but I figured it was useless since college apps were already over. It doesn't seem very important though, the only difficulty I could see about making it in is maintaining a 3.5 uw GPA, and having extra curriculars. It's just a title that says this student has about a 3.5 GPA and she does things for school. Then again you can tell that about a person by just looking at his transcript. You don't exactly need a title.</p>
<p>Haha, the only thing I regret is that I will not get one of those nifty silver cords that come with NHS for graduation.</p>

<p>I think the chances are slim. But again it's different for each school/chapter. So I would ask your Guidance Counselor or someone at the office for the exact requirements.</p>
<p>fwiw, my S missed being in NHS jr year because he never paid attention to filling out the papers (application). He is in this year as a sr. When he wasn't in last year, I spoke to GC who said it's not a factor in college admissions.</p>
<p>At our school, it was 93/100 GPA, short app w a couple "essays", list of ec's, community service (S was light on comm. svc but it didn't seem to matter). So, as everyone said, ck w your GC. But don't fret about it.</p>
<p>At my kids' school (d is pres of the chapter), you must have a 94 average to get invited; then fill out a membership application which is based upon community service and essays (not everyone gets in at that point). To stay in you must perform a certain amount of service and maintain your grades. It is actually pretty tough...so an accomplishment of which she is proud.</p>

<p>We get gold cords for NHS, purple ones for Latin HS, red ones for Spanish HS, something or other for French HS, blue and gold for Math HS.</p>
<p>I'M SOOO JEALOUS! All those nifty things for graduation...</p>
<p>Heheh. My sister wasn't in NHS but when she graduated she stole and wore a gold cord just for the hell of it ;O)</p>
