Getting Kids to Save $$$ for College Spending

Thanks you guys for the comments so far!

I do think that my brother will need to learn his lesson the hard way... he's that kind of kid. Got a ticket by a cop when he was caught driving after 9 PM after many warnings from us :) Never drove late again.

Okay so $500 is the top line- I know my brother. He wants the best and doesn't settle for anything less. I have never seen him trade something with a brand-new or of higher quality for a lower-quality/generic item such as willing to pay middle-grade gas for our VW instead of regular/low-grade and chooses Advil over CVS brand ibuprofren (which I believe is better).

Thanks to those who have kids in city schools for a general estimate- but I do expect a little higher once they're 21, right?

BTW- I agree about working creating higher grades :) saw that for myself! I also think that's happening to him too right now along with hockey league and now varsity hockey coming up.

Better make sure that he does not go into debt (ie: via credit cards). If he lives beyond his means, this could happen. My son has been getting regular credit card offers. They have been sending it to our home, and I assume that he gets some mailed to him at college. They are pre-approved and my son does not currently work! The invitations that arrive here all land in the trash.
