Getting Sick

I get sick every single semester at college once, and only once, usually at the beginning of the semester. I have one now and I'm sad... I take multi-vitamins, I eat relatively healthy, and although I am a very light sleeper, I still try to get a good night's sleep. Everyone I know including my suitemates are fine. What's with me?

Clean your room.

Wash your hands more often, you are picking up bugs.

I always got sick the moment I got to campus, and then again in February. Lots of times in between too, but I always got horrendously ill then like clockwork. I’d say if you’re only getting sick once the whole year you’re in REALLY good shape.

your immune is not the most efficient at handling foreign pathogens I guess. Like you are less likely to deal with everyone else’s pathogens asymptotically. Cause could be genetic, or it could be that you stayed in too-sterile of an environment when you were young (hygiene hypothesis).

I’m sorta the same way :/.

enfieldacademy is correct. Your home is probably very clean and sterile, so when you go away you get sick. But it does seem like your immune system is quite strong because you only get sick once. My older daughter was very sick the first year in college, but it became less frequent as years went by. My younger daughter in high school still gets sick beginning of each school year.

What you are going through is quite normal. Hope you feel better soon.
