Getting to/from Hotchkiss and Choate

Hi everybody. Question for anyone with direct experience with Hotchkiss and/or Choate (either themselves or their kiddo(s)): how do the students from outside driving distance get to/from the school, the airport and back? Which would be the best airports, and then how do they get from the airport to school? Thanks in advance!

For a fee, Choate provided van service to the major airports. Often, kids would pool for car service to the airports as well. Bradley (Hartford) is closest, but the vans went to Newark, LaGuardia and JFK. We are in AZ, and our son traveled in and out of Bradley exclusively with no problems, no missed flights, etc.

The Amtrak station is in town within walking distance. Kids will take the train in to NYC.

At standard breaks, Hotchkiss generally provides bus service to the major airports and to the Wassaic train station (20min). When my kid was there the bus was about $10, I think. From the Wassaic train station, its about a 2 hour ride to Grand Central in NYC. Kids will sometimes take the train into NYC for the day or weekend when there are no Saturday classes.

When traveling outside of breaks, there is car service or taxi available to both the train station and the airports. The kids will often share a car and the car services will even coordinate if they get bookings at similar times.

Students are not allowed to drive on campus so student cars are never an option.

Note - all of the above is pre-Covid, I’m not sure what may have changed this year and what changes will be in effect next year.

Thanks to both of you for the information! Much appreciated.
