I am going to be hosting an exchange student from Australia for 10 days. I want to give her a gift to welcome her but I don't know what to get. I want it be really American though...any suggestions?

When I went to Germany I brought my host sisters little things that had to do with Chicago (I live nearby), some candy that is specially made in my hometown, poptarts (they love them but they don’t have them in Germany), and a ton of clothes form Hollister (it’s typical “American” in their eyes and its CRAZY expensive there). I think you should make her a little gift basket and put it in the room she’ll be staying in. Put a copy of an American magazine like Seventeen, a small gift like an American Flag scarf from Old Navy (also were popular in Germany), and then some other stuff like bottled water, candy, a list of all your family’s contact info, etc. I know I would have REALLY appreciated it if my host family had done that for me.

If you want any more advice on how to be a good host sister id love to help since I had a terrible host sister haha. Just reply because I can’t PM…

Thanks! Those are great ideas! My mom has gotten her blanket but that’s pretty much it but I think I will get something from hollister
