<p>I'm buying a gift for an incoming UCSC student, so I'm wondering if anyone has any good, unique ideas for gifts, like a gift card to a good local store/restauraunt/bakery. Anything unique to Santa Cruz that people wish they had when they came in? Any ideas?</p>
<p>Palace Art and Supply is a pretty great little place. Mostly art supplies, but also carries office supplies and novelty items like magnetic poetry and titanic-shaped ice cube trays. They could find some interesting things for their dorm there. Best part is that you can order the gift card by phone, and the student can pick it up there.</p>
<p>Restaurants, I recommend the Surfrider Cafe, I Love Sushi, or The Pacific Cookie Company. I’m not sure if any of those do gift cards, but they’re popular with students (and for a good reason!).</p>
