What is a “click with plaque”?
We had a kind of similar tradition at my workplace many years ago. There was a poster/meme popular at the time entitled “All I really ever needed to know I learned in Kindergarten “. It was a list of phrases to live by (that you learned in Kindergarten but are applicable for everyone). We created a custom poster in that vein for each person leaving our office with phrases or advice that were used by that person or definitely applied due to some event in their personal or work life. Or a personalized twist on a common idiom. We solicited a few from each employee and some were humorous, others were sweet or poignant. Each person who left really looked forward to receiving their poster. We titled each poster, Everything I really needed to Know I learned at ‘Name of Organization.’
Sorry, CLOCK with plaque, with dates of employment on it.
I love this idea! Very clever and would bring back memories of everyone.
Did I misunderstand? It “sounds” as if the retiree has owned the beach house for a while. If so, if she likes wind charms, it’s probable she already has them. If she likes to garden and her beach house has a garden, she probably already has gardening tools. She probably has beach towels.
I can see these being good suggestions if she was BUYING a new home and moving into it, but the OP’s description doesn’t sound as if that’s what’s happening.
If you want to get the restaurant card, check her Facebook or other social media and yelp reviews in the beach town to see if she has a favorite. If she drinks, wine is always a nice idea. If there is a fireplace, maybe a cord of wood.
Well…unless it’s a gas fireplace which many vacation type homes have now.
To the OP…I’m still unclear. Is this a group gift from a number of people…or $200 just from you?
As a fairly new retiree, I definitely don’t want more random “stuff.” (Although at a beach place I would guess nice beach towels can always be used). Consumables are great. Restaurant GCs would be great. Maybe a GC to Tommy Bahama, which has beach towels, bags and things like that, but also has clothes would be nice.
A high end cooler from a place like REI, with a receipt for easy return, would also be nice.
If you or your group is really intent on a physical gift (though you can see many above nod in harmony about most people wanting less stuff than more!) how about a 4 Brumate cocktail tumblers (if you know that she drinks alcohol) and a couple bottles of wine or mixers Insulated Barware for Spirits OR 2 or 4 Brumate coffee tumblers 16 oz Insulated Coffee Mug - Toddy | BrüMate and some coffee from a local beanery. Consumable, practical, fun and great if they will be entertaining friends/family at the beach house!
Another idea is a rose bush named ‘Happy Retirement’. This link is from UK, but you might be able to find something similar here:
“Happy retirement” beach towels?
I don’t think she’d care for anything with a company logo on it. She likes nice things but doesn’t advertise where they came from.
A photo is a great idea. The restaurant we’ll be going to is in a beautiful location. It’s actually a great place for a group picture. I’ll make sure to take a camera.
A nice photo already in a frame is very nice. It’s always a chore to get a print and remember to buy a frame so it’s so thoughtful to do that.
There are so many ideas. I think one that you think of will be appreciated. Because in the end, it’s about your coworkers thinking enough of you to send you off.
If you get some nice pictures, instead of putting one in a frame, you could put it on a picnic/beach blanket:

And put others on beach towels with personalized messages (date, Happy Retirement, etc.). Several places do this, including:

Something like the VISA gift card might be nice. I’ve been mentioning ideas to the rest of the department (like a gift card to a restaurant) and someone said they were concerned about a gift card to a particular place because so many places have closed. A VISA gift card would solve that issue, so that’s definitely on our list of possibilities.
Oh, this is a good point. I love them, but we don’t live near the beach.
Yes, they’ve owned the beach house for years. She probably does have everthing she wants for it.
I think consumables and/or experiences are probably a better choice. Checking social media to see what she likes is a great idea. I should have thought of that.
This is a group gift from our department Thumper. We’re all going out to a very nice restaurant, but wanted to give her something nice too.
Don’t forget to check Pinterest. If she is on that you can get a real feel for what she likes.
Does she wear even simple jewelry? Several of us wanted to give a colleague a retirement memento…something she would think of us when she used it. We got a very simple sterling silver bracelet, and earrings to match. But we also knew this friend would wear this.
Another retiree…there were only two of us chipping in. We got her a very pretty brighton bangle. Again, we knew she could use it.
In both cases, this was jewelry that could be worn with jeans or dress up clothes.
