“Girldinner” makes a unique hashtag. That’s likely one of the reasons the name took off.

Good article and reminded me that a beloved snake plate item is pepedew peppers!!!
This “snack plate” is a simplified version of the so called “Buddha bowl” thing we’ve encountered in Hawaii. Or vice versa!
Made a very simple dinner: grilled steak with a side of pre-cut TJ’s cauliflower florets sautéed in olive oil with some scrambled egg and parm added at the end. Took me 15 minutes to make this feast. I’m all for simplicity when it is hot outside! Including snack plates.
I thought of this thread when discussing dinner options with my husband this afternoon. We got back this morning from a quick trip to the beach and both of us went right to work. No time to grocery shop. I remembered we bought mozzarella at the beach that we ended up not using and brought home with us. We had come home to a ton of ripe cherry and sungold tomatoes in our garden so I suggested we just have caprese salad, so that was dinner! Delish! Neither of us needed/wanted a full meal.
We have always called this sort of thing, “snackies,” at our house.
Picky Plate is a cute name. I do this a lot when I am home alone. I am always STARVING at lunch time and not so hungry at dinner. So a little plate of this and that is fine. I like - good deli ham, like smoked or honey ham. Prosciutto…ok, but really, just ham works for me. If we have the little pepperonis, those are good too. My DH doesn’t eat meat so I don’t have a lot of that in the house. Crunchy gluten free crackers, like Mary’s Gone Crackers or the sesame rice crackers. Watermelon and blueberries right now. Whatever cheese is in the drawer and a little jam - either raspberry or the fig jam. I have these very small dishes, about the size of a shot glass and that is great for a single serving of peanuts. My daughter likes the plain SmartFood popcorn, I always have single serving bags of that in the pantry and sometimes I open one up and just sprinkle the popcorn all over the plate and it looks cute. And I eat it. But it’s really about the crunchy GF crackers for me. They are kind of expensive and always feel like a treat.
This sorta killed my appetite…
I’m obsessed with peppadew peppers–I love them. I also didn’t really know what kind of peppers they were. I just googled piquant peppers and here’s what I found out about peppadews. Thanks for posting–this just reminded me that I need to buy some because we’re having a beach picnic on Friday night.
My mouth is watering just thinking of them!
We had tickets for a local theater performance and wanted a quick bite before the show. We went to a restaurant (hadn’t been there before) that basically served “girl dinners”!! Everyone loved it. We had a cheese board, spicy feta and green olives, rosemary macorna almonds, a gooey toasted cheese (which was a toasted cheese sandwich made with a soft goat cheese on sandwich bread cut up into four large pieces), tuna crudo, and Wellfleet oysters!! It was perfect. Plus there was a wine and cocktail menu. I had wine and everyone else had a cocktail or non-alcoholic beer.
Yummy!! That’s a perfect snack meal!
