Girl looking for roommate!

Hey everyone! I'm going to be Vandy class of '13 (wow, ominous, huh? lol), and I'm looking to see if anyone is interested in being roommates. I've posted the answers to a roommate survey I found elsewhere. So, if you're interested or just want to chat, feel free to PM me!

Name: Um..don't really want to post this out here, but if we get to know each other I'll obvious tell you

Hometown: see above

Dorm you want to live in: We’re all going to be in the Commons, so I suppose it doesn’t really matter (though I’d like a bigger room, of course! Don’t we all…)

Going to pledge (if you know where, where)? Probably not, but I’m keeping an open mind on this one.

Honors college student? Yup. Cornelius Scholar.

Sports you play/intend to play: I’m probably not going to do anything Varsity, but I love to swim (I swim just about every day), run, and play tennis. I just like being outdoors in general, though, so I’m open to learning any new sports. Oh, and dance. Definitely dance, if you count that as a sport!

Joining any organizations? I want to write for the newspaper and edit for the literary magazine. I’m also big on community service, especially things like Big Brother Big Sister (I love working with kids). Theater is something I’ve always wanted to try (it’s just taken me a little while to get over being stage shy!), so I’ll probably check that out. Dance, too, if they accept people with more enthusiasm than skill, like me!

How do you enjoy your time? Writing is a huge part of my life. I write novels, short stories, and poetry nonstop. I also love to read a good book. Wow, that just made me sound like such a homebody, lol. On the flip side, I’m really looking forward to dancing down in Nashville, and like I said before, I love playing sports!

Party? Yes

Drink? I don’t have much interest in it. If it’s something I’ve never tried before, I’ll taste it, but alcohol isn’t really such a big deal to me. And as long as you aren’t coming home every day at 3 am in the morning, completely wasted, I don’t really care what my roomie’s stance on this is, lol.

Smoke? No, no. And please, no roommate who smokes, either. I have nothing against smokers, but they inhibit my ability to breathe, lol

Religion (in case it matters for some reason)? I have my own faiths. I’m Christian, but I don’t really label myself as belonging to any particular denomination. I am also not at all public about my beliefs and can get along with anyone else of any faith : )

…unless your faith entails torturing kittens or something…0.o

Favorite music (go to concerts much?): I don’t go much now, but I’m looking to change that. I don’t listen to screamo or hard metal or things like that, but otherwise, I’m pretty open to anything from classical to pop to some kinds of country. I do, however, generally like to sleep and study without music. But with the modern invention of the headphones, I don’t think this will be as big a deal, haha. And I can always learn to deal.

Favorite food: Chinese/Asian food, bread…fruit…I could live off of bread and fruit, I think. Well, I’d miss seafood then…and stirfrys… I love to cook and bake, so my roomie (along with probably everyone else on my hall) will most likely receive lots of goods, lol.

Have you ever shared a room before? Yes, at a number of overnight camps ranging in length from 3wks to 6 wks, and there were never any problems : )

Night owl/early bird? I tend to wake up around 7:30 to 8am on weekends, and I go to sleep around 11. Of course, that’s just on average. I’m up for an all-night party or just chat-session every once in a while! If you regularly get up at like 6:30am or go to bed at 1am, we might not make the best roommates…

Do you snore? No

How important are your grades? Very, as I’m going to be a premed (but a English major, too!)

Mind having people in your room, late night? Nope, as long as it’s not every night

Mind having people visit from home and stay in the room? Not at all. Sounds like fun! But I’d like a little notice ahead of time

Do you bring the drama? Nope. I do, however, make a very good sounding board if you need to vent (or so I’m told.)

How often do you talk on the phone? Not often. I’m more of a text/email kind of person. And if you’re close enough, I’d rather just speak with you face-to-face

Do you have any unordinary habits? Not that I can think of. Oh, well, I guess I get ready in the morning unusually quickly for a girl, haha. About 15 min, usually. I’m very no-fuss and rather laid back about clothes and things like that. I mean, I like looking nice, but it’s not the most important thing in my life.

What do you consider clean (so...do you consider yourself clean)? I’m definitely not dirty. I’m not OCD about room cleanliness, either, but I would like to be able to see the floor and not have trash piled up everywhere

Outgoing or shy? I’m not shy, per se. Sometimes I’m quiet just because I like listening to other people or because I don’t feel like I have anything really pressing to say. But if I do, I’m not going to hold back, either! I have a bit of a sarcastic sense of humor. You can judge how close I am to someone by how much I tease them XD

Active or lazy? Active. I mean, I like to curl up with a book or type at my laptop, but I can’t sit at home all day either. I’d love a roommate who will go jogging/swimming with me, or teach me a new sport!

Do you know a lot of people going here (currently or next year)? Not really, just two people who are in higher years

Are YOU hugely pumped to go here or What!? I’m pretty much set on going to Vandy (the merit aid helps. A lot.) I loved the campus when I visitied, and I’m looking forward to it.

Anything else about yourself that you'd like other people to know: I’m pretty laid back personality-wise, and I’m looking for a roommate who I can be good friends with : ) I’m really exciting about college and everything it has to offer. Please PM me if you’re interested in getting to know each other or just to talk!

many, many Vandy frosh find their roommates on Facebook…you may want to try that…

She already has. I recognize the “torturing kittens” comment regarding religion. =P

heehee, just broading my scope, lol

aw I don’t have a facebook. am I going to get stuck with a bad roomie… Maybe I’ll find one during open house??

to the OP, I’m a CV scholar as well but idk if we would make the best roomies. I frequently go to bed at 1,2,3 am and would most likely never wake up before 10 on weekends. Plus I take 45 mins to get ready…looking for somebody to do makeup with in the mornings and help straighten hair etc!

any takers?

Dang, holland, I’m with you on the hair/makeup, but I crash before midnight and wake up before eight! :-(

Does anyone know if the dorms truly are gender neutral? Because I found this article: [Colleges test water with gender-neutral dorms : Relationships : Memphis Commercial Appeal](http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2008/jun/29/colleges-test-water-with-gender-neutral-dorms/) and it says, and I quote:
More than 30 campuses, including Vanderbilt University in Nashville, offer gender-neutral housing, in which members of the opposite sex are allowed to room together.
Can anyone confirm this?

And anyhow, my bits dangle and I’ve those smaller size gametes, so you might not want to room with me. Sorry, so no help there (plus we’d be rather incompatible, too. I rise at 5 on most mornings and sleep by 9 usually).

Huh…as far as I know, commons rooms are sex segregated by floor

Do most people select their roommate via facebook, or are many assignments random?

haha holland you sound a lot like me with the night owl and getting ready thing lol

I think you can do either, holland : ) Vandy does have a little survey thing you fill out when you apply for rooming

hmm we keep the same hours/sleeping habits.

Political affiliation?

I’m not very politically active–do like to listen to others debate so I can learn more, though. Would say I’m quite moderate…

Hey there! I’m looking for a roommate too!

Hometown: Memphis

Dorm you want to live in: Commons

Going to pledge (if you know where, where)? Probably not

Honors college student? nope, but very studious

Sports you play/intend to play: Maybe cross-country or track, I’m not sure

Joining any organizations? Choir! As to other clubs, I don’t know but I’ll keep my mind open

How do you enjoy your time? Writing, hiking, knitting, daydreaming, will probably spend the first few weeks exploring every corner of campus.
Party? Not usually, but you might convert me

Drink? No, definitely can’t pass for 21. I can barely pass for 16…

Smoke? No, I have asthma

Religion (in case it matters for some reason)? Episcopalian, but absorb the best bits of other religions into my personal faith. Very tolerant, as an overreaction to my Baptist-Bible-belt location.

Favorite music (go to concerts much?): eclectic. Country, church choir, new age, celtic, anything with a good beat and harmony. I prefer quiet surroundings, though

Favorite food: Asian/indian, but could live happily off of bread, butter, milk, and apples. I’d love to mooch food off of you! :)

Have you ever shared a room before? Yes, I’ve shared a room with my identical twin since conception…

Night owl/early bird? I like to go to bed before 10 and wake up around 8.

Do you snore? No

How important are your grades? Very

Mind having people in your room, late night? Yes, if there’s one room rule that’s it.

Mind having people visit from home and stay in the room? I’d like some notice ahead of time, but don’t mind as long as they’re quiet and respect my stuff.

Do you bring the drama? Nope. It stresses me out. I’m a good listener, too.

How often do you talk on the phone? Not much. I’ll probably skype with my sister.

Do you have any unordinary habits? I’ve got a set-in-stone morning routine, and am touchy about people borrowing my stuff without permission, but am generally not neurotic. I’ve got a small tick that manifests itself in tapping my feet and fidgeting, but people don’t seem to mind it.

What do you consider clean (so…do you consider yourself clean)? Seeing the floor (which implies putting clothes away), no dirt or dust piling up, able to find anything in less than a minute. I’m reasonably neat.

Outgoing or shy? I’m definitely an introvert and have a sense of personal space. I love talking to people one on one but am not comfortable in crowds. I’ve got an understated sort of sense of humor, and if I like you you’ll see it often. I only start conversations when I’ve something meaningful to say.

Active or lazy? Active. I like to curl up with a book or surf the web or knit but I like to run, and will probably run at least 30 minutes a day. I can easily be lazy, but I like eating ice cream and still fitting into my clothes too much to be a couch potato. :)

Haha, speedy_mouse. I’m with you on the whole “I can barely pass for 16” thing. I swear, if I put on some more kid-ish clothes, some flats, and put my hair in pigtails or something I could pass for 13… Well, maybe that’s an exaggerations, lol.

Dang, speedy_mouse, I AM sixteen. Count your blessings. Please PM me, it sounds as though we have a lot in common. Do you have Facebook?
