Girls 100% Sure They're Applying Early Decision to Barnard College

Wow, and it looks like Barnard has the highest percent change of all the schools on that list. Interesting.
I have no idea either.

My day has literally consisted of reading this thread and googling images of Barnard acceptance letters. Wowza. It is totally time for a movie/smores break. I hope you guys can find something relaxing to take your minds off of Wednesday. We definitely all need it.

digbyunicornhunt-yea! also I am writing my RD essays to distract my attention from this thread. Did you find any images of Barnard acceptance letters?

No. But google did pop up with a picture of a ravenously happy recipient.

@DigbyUnicornhunt you’ve piqued my interest, care to share the picture?

As much as I would love to oblige your request, viewing the picture did not make me feel any better about the situation we are in, and for your own good (sorry I’m sounding so parent-y), I think it would be best if we leave this one unseen. But if you still really want to see it, you can simply google images of the Barnard acceptance letter.

Haha OK nevermind then. I was hoping from your description that it was amusing such as this particular photo: http://exploringberkeley.files.■■■■■■■■■■■■■/2008/11/05-surprise-party.jpg</a>
But I digress.

My daughter is waiting to hear on her ED app. I assume from the posts that Barnard snail mails rather than e-mails. This is going to be a long week. Any other MSM cross registrants out there? With their decisions pending, this is a difficult process. I hope she can pursue her dream.

alright so 550 early decision applicants this year? SCARY. just made me soo nervous. does anyone know how many early decision applicants they usually take?

They usually take about 200 girls, which would be 36% this year.

But they might take more if the applicants are stronger…I think they base it more off the applications than the numbers they want to accept.

Although we definitely might see more deferrals this year…

That still makes me really really uh… (may be too strong a word) depressed.
I’m going crazy, it’s not mentally possible for me to do any schoolwork right now. Gah!

I just saw that link and shivered. OMG. It was almost to 50% accepted in the past years (although it never spiked up that high). Now it may be down to the near 30% accepted?? Man, 550 is how much they usually ACCEPT (RD and ED).

Here’s the thought, though. I wonder where most of these “new” applicants are from. Barnard does its admissions through area.

smartundecided- I wonder that too.
So, how did everyone here find out about Barnard? For me it was a combination of friends and acquaintances casually mentioning it (I don’t even know why, actually. randomly: "i heard Barnard’s a good school.) and this site that got me interested to look at BC’s website and then visit.

While CC’s not a reflection of the public’s interest in the school, I don’t feel like there’s more posters in the Barnard forum here than last year, although I could be wrong. On the other hand, I feel like the posters in this forum are more scattered than years past-- there’s been a lot of lurkers and drop-ins, don’t you think?
However, we are pretty active around here (seems like this every year), more so than a lot of other forums, say, Wellesley’s, maybe that’s the reason for all the applicants? XD

Shall we make a list of everyone applying ED this year like they did last year? We’re all in the same boat.

On second thought, it looks like there is a lot more of us this year. Wow.

About 29 of us this year.
Good luck ladies!
I can’t concenrate at all on school and I have midterms coming up. Not good! haha
What are you girls doing to deal with the stress?
It’s so strange to be able to not use gender-neutral terms when adressing a group of people.

Shay–I found out about Barnard because I come from a family of Wellesley women (literally everyone, mom, grandma, great-grandma, aunts, cousins) and I didn’t want to be that isolated. So I started looking at the other sisters, and fell in love with Barnard.

Jaden–It sounds stupid, but since I’ve been practically unable to focus on any schoolwork, I picked a pair of really really cute shoes that I’ve been dying for. If I manage to do all of my assignments well through the end of next week, I’m letting myself get them :)

Good luck to everyone! Hopefully we’ll get to meet each other next fall!

@trapeze37… That’s honestly SO strange. I told my parents that once I graduate I want a pair of really cute, HUGE heeled shoes (because I’m tall and people HATE it when I wear heals). It’s my form of rebellion.

@Shay. I found out about it through Columbia. I feel like that’s the cliched answer, but once I found out about Barnard and its affiliation and it’s English program and the woman power and actually visiting there and meeting the wonderful people… I was hooked!

I’ve found that shopping for and wrapping Christmas gifts for my friends has taken my mind of off worrying (a little:)…I feel like waiting for college acceptance letters makes everyone really “me focused” and as it’s the holiday season, I figure that thinking of others will help me to put things in perspective during this anxious period. Only a FEW days left…Good luck to all!!

@smartundecided

That’s exactly how I fell in love with Barnard. I thought I loved Columbia first, and then realized I didn’t really like the core and the vastness of the campus. Barnard to me felt much more like home and every Barnard woman I met was extremely friendly and helpful.

I found out about Barnard through one of my best friends who has already graduated high school. After she introduced me, I researched Barnard both online and on campus and was astounded. I adore Barnard, but I keep telling myself that if it was not meant to be-- if I was not meant to go there, then I will find happiness someplace else.
