Goin To Nyc!! Need Advice

A buddy of mine and me recently decided that we are going to go up to NYC this weekend. Well its a little too late to order any tickets now so we are most likely going to go the TKTS rout. I know of Jersey Boys, Pajama Game, Drousy Chaperone,etc...but the reality is that those are 1-1000 that those shows will be on the board. SOOOO I need to know about some other not as well known shows on broadway right now that might be on the board that I should see. THANKS!!

-Theatre Jock

There are lots of fantastic shows that you can go see, I'd really suggest seeing Sweeney Todd and Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris (Off-Broadway), both are fantastic shows!

One suggestion I would make besides TKTS is if you have a student ID go to the box office and try buying student rush seats. Granted they're not always gonna be located at the best part of the theater, usually in the back. But you can get them for under $35 pretty much where ever you go! And another thing I'd suggest is if you want decent seats at a decent price you can go to broadwaybox.com and look up any show on the list and usually get at least 40% off the standard ticket price for orchestra seating!

It's really up to you what you want to do, but those are just other options! I hope you have a great time!

try The Producers..they usually have tickets at the door..

Pajama Game has already closed. I was in the city this past weekend and did NOT see Drowsy Chaperone on the TKTS board offerings, but many other shows were listed, including Sweeney Todd, the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Spamalot, and others. Please note, however, that the there seemed to be many, many people who began lining up for those tickets several hours ahead of time, so plan accordingly. It's perhaps not too late to go online to Theatermania.com, etc. and seek out some discount codes for tickets. That's how we got to see Drowsy Chaperone, which I cannot recommend enough. Great show, great fun.

Spelling Bee is a great show. Their lottery isn't too hard to win and the seats are right in front. I would suggest that.

D was just in NYC yesterday and won lottery tickets to Dirty Rotten...26.00 box seats. Sweeney Todd is another show that is great. She said people were getting lottery for Drowsey yesterday also...mind you, these are matinee shows. We usually go the lottery route, or door to door theatre shopping to see what is offered. In the past (early years of NY trips) we bought tickets in advanced, not anymore!! We never have a problem getting tickets to shows...but we usually have a list we would like to see!! Have a great time in the city!! We enjoy spending the day there!!

Great show- tickets only 35$ AND IT WAS SUPERB!!

Theatrejock,

Here's a list of shows which were on the board in the past week:

AVENUE Q

AWAKE AND SING

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

BRIDGE AND TUNNEL

CHICAGO

DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS

DOUBT

HAIRSPRAY

HOT FEET

MAMMA MIA !

RENT

SHINING CITY

SWEENEY TODD

THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE

THE COLOR PURPLE

THE LIEUTENANT OF INISHMORE

THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA

THE NEW YORK CITY BALLET

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA

THE PRODUCERS

THE THREEPENNY OPERA

THE WEDDING SINGER

That's not to say that they'll be there this weekend (especially the ones which closed on Sunday!) but there's a good chance for most of those. You also have the option of trying the rush policies of several shows. Here's a link to those descriptions:

http://www.playbill.com/celebritybuzz/article/82428.html

Lastly, you can also check broadwaybox.com for current discount codes.

NMR was correct about Pajama Game, it closed a month ago and it's too bad you missed it. It was a fun production! Of the shows listed above, my recommendations would be (assuming you haven't seen any of them):

Spelling Bee, Rent, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, DRS, Sweeney or The Color Purple.

Another excellent choice is Altar Boyz, which is technically an off-Broadway show, but it's very close to the theatre district, and you can always get discounted tickets for it.

Have fun!

We found a discount parking coupon that worked like a charm for $10 parking (up to 10 hours). The site is www.nytix.com

We paid $2 online for access to the coupon. The coupon is printed and then you use it combined with your theater ticket stub to pay upon leaving the lot. There are specific lots (4 for lower Broadway, 5 for upper Broadway) and we didn't have trouble finding the lots.

WOW!.. I love the CC family..thank you to everyone who gave of their time to fill me in. I'll let you know how it turned out :)

I was in NYC last week and ordered tickets online for the next day. Just have them held at ticket office and show up about 30 mins before the show.

Try the TCKTS booth at South Street Seaport if you can- they have a better selection for some reason!

Just got back..it was awesome. I ended up going to see Altar Boyz and The Wedding Singer. Both very good shows. Little side note, I also got to play some hoops in downtown Harlem. That was an experience. Thanks again for everyones help
