Going to community college with decent test scores and grades

@ucbalumnus‌ also, ive posted on actuarialoutpost with some questions regarding the field and college coursework. they said that an elementary statistics course, which math 10 seems to be, would be a waste of time and would not help me prepare for the actuarial exams at at all. they recommended that i take calc instead. i will finish the calc serie hopefully by the end of summer, but do you reckon i take math 10 if math 23 is not offered at de anza anymore?

You may have to take Math 10 if one of your target UC or CSU campuses requires it for your major. But it probably is not that valuable a course from a content point of view (especially if you had AP statistics in high school).

It may be advantageous to start at a UC or CSU as a frosh, so that you can take the calculus-based statistics courses needed for the statistics major or actuarial preparation without waiting for transfer.

@ucbalumnus‌ ok, but wouldnt i be able to self study for the tests. do u know how difficult it would be to self study for exam p, without taking calc based stats.

Basically it all comes down to social life and the freshman experience. That’s really the best thing a real university offers.

On the flip-side if money is an issue then CC is a great option. De Anza is a good CCC and so I’m sure you can get a great education there. In some ways there are perks to a CC education over a UC; compared to CSU tho it’s mostly the same. Also you can enroll into multiple CC at once if need be for different courses.

btw with lots of dual enrollment courses you might be able to transfer after only 1 year at CC.
