Golden Key

Does membership in the Golden Key Int'l Honour Society carry any weight in the real world? Would it be impressive on my law school apps?

I received an invitation for membership today. Even if I don't join, it made me feel great b/c I had no idea I was in the top 15% at NU.

what do you guys think? is it woth $70, or is it a scam?

In my humble opinion, the only international honors society that's worth a damn is Phi Beta Kappa.

Pretty much a scam.

armcp is right. If it's free, go ahead and and accept, but don't give them any money.

Golden Key isn't a scam, as it has been around for a long time and actually holds meetings and performs public service work in many locations. However, I don't think it would help your law school application.

As far as a fee to join, doesn't Phi Beta Kappa, for example, require a membership fee as well?

It always peeves me when people post something is a scam just because of a membership fee. Fees are the freaking backbone of colleges. Everything I do requires a fee.

I don't mind paying a fee for something that will be worthwhile to me, but I can use $70 for a lot of other things.

Thanks for the advice, everyone.
