Golf in the Annapolis area?

My wife and I are planning to come to the Annapolis area during the second week of October, and we’d like to play golf 3 or 4 times while we’re there. Any suggestions on public courses or private clubs that allow non-members?

I live in Annapolis and married to an avid golfer. He belongs to the Navy golf course, but it’s private and you need to go with a member in order to play. I believe active duty and retired military are eligible to play with certain limitations.

Eisenhower is a public course just outside Annapolis, about 10 mins from downtown. They just finished renovating the course. It was a nice course prior to renovating, so I’m sure it’s even better now. Unfortunately my husband and kids have not yet played there so no current insight.

Another public course, about 15-20 minutes from downtown Annapolis is Renditions in Davidsonville. My son just played there recently. He said it’s a very good course. https://www.renditionsgolf.com/

Another great course is across the Bay Bridge in Queenstown, about 30-35 minutes from downtown Annapolis. https://www.qhgolf.com/

I hope that helps. Are you coming to town for one of the Boat Shows? If not, be aware that October is a very busy time for tourists if your trip coincides with either of the boat shows.

Check out the Preserve at Eisenhower golf course in nearby Crownsville. Renovated a few years ago.

Or Renditions in Davidsonville.

Great suggestions - thanks! I wasn’t aware of the boat shows - I’ll have to check into that.

@gadad are you staying with friends/family? If not, do you already have your accommodations booked? If there is any availability left, it will be incredibly expensive the second week of October. Restaurants will be very busy as well. If your dates are flexible, the third week (after 10/17) would be time to come. The boat shows are 10/6-10/9 and 10/13-10/17.

No, we’re going to have to book a place, and that week is my wife’s fall break at school, so it’s the only time she’s available. Do you think that nearby communities outside of Annapolis - Pasadena, Severna Park, Edgewater, etc. - might be easier to book?

None of those places have hotels. You can check your dates for Annapolis, where there are a lot of hotels to see if there is anything available that isn’t too pricey. Depending on your plans, you might consider Kent Island, across the Bay Bridge, about 20 mins from Annapolis. That would also position you close to the Queenstown golf course. Other than that, the only hotels in the area would be near BWI. If you are just looking for a place to sleep, and don’t mind driving everywhere, there are a few chain hotels in Bowie, 15 mins west of Annapolis. But I’d recommend considering Kent Island over Bowie (chain hotels, but all are newer and situated around the water, among a lot of seafood restaurants. It would mean a 20-25 min drive to Eisenhower, but would be close to Queenstown. There are also some really good restaurants in nearby Stevensville.

There are also a ton of airbnb properties in Annapolis and the surrounding areas that might still have availability.

October 8, 22 & 29 are all home USNA football weekends as well with Oct. 29th being homecoming.

Fond memories of playing the USNA golf course which used to be at the old USNA Dairy Farm across the river.
