Hi! I'm currently a sophomore attending a community college looking to transfer into a regular college/university or a BFA granting conservatory. I live in Texas and have a pre-paid tuition plan for state schools, but it can be applied to out of state and privet schools for an equivalent percentage of the tuition, so they aren't out of the question. The school I'm attending now is my second college, I started out at a different school thinking I wanted to be a science major because of greater stability compared to acting, but I wasn't happy and ended up changing majors to theatre, and I changed schools because the school I was at didn't have a lot available in terms of performing arts. So point being, this is effectively my first year as a theatre major and my in-major coursework will reflect that in terms of the quantity of theatre hours I'll have completed (<30), although I plan to graduate with an AA and have all my core done at this school (>60 in total including theatre hours). I'm looking for a school that is 1. overall a great school (if a college/university), 2. has a good reputation for theatre, 3. has working professionals on faculty in acting, directing, and stagecraft, 4. has some preparation for non-theatre acting (TV and Film) even if it's only a course or two, 5. has several highly successful alumni, 6. is affordable (<10k/year) or has a lot of good MERIT based scholarships and grants (NOT loans), and 7. preferably is somewhere with some professional regional theaters in town/the area. I'm flexible when it comes to BFA vs BA, but it needs to be a degree that will let me specialize in acting (so not a general theatre arts degree), and I am interested in finishing in 2 years if possible (3 is ok too, but absolutely no more unless it's a conservatory). So with that said I'm currently considering the following schools:

SMU (BFA-Audition)

TCU (BFA-Audition)
3a. Sam Houston State University (BFA-Non-Audition)
3b. The University of Texas at Austin (BA-Resume Review)

The University of Texas at Arlington (BFA-Audition?)

I know there are a lot of people on the forums who have gone through the process of looking into theatre schools, and I'd love to hear any thoughts, opinions, and advice about these schools and schools I should be considering.

Thanks
