I only moved from 16/20 to 14/17 on the waitlist for Bierner after the tuition deadline. It doesn’t look good. :(

Finklea was all right too. But I heard she grades hard on the free response questions.

I emailed Dr Laude and will be able to get into his CH301. I wonder if it is possible to do the same by emailing Dr. Bierner or Dr. Neubauer for BIO 325. A couple of Dr. Neubauer’s still have openings but only for TIP students. His regular classes are all closed.

plnlin2, Neubauer’s regular classes were closed in this past May. I couldn’t add into his class in regular registration. The only way you could do Neubauer’s classes is to sign up for TIP program (which is not hard to do). Bierner is only a lecturer here at UT, so I don’t think he has the same “power” as Dr. Laude does. Furthermore, more instructors are available for genetics than general chemistry, so I would think the instructor would be hard to justify for why they needed to add you as a student.

xtra, thanks for the explanation. Isn’t TIP for invitation only?

Um… yes and no, the Neubauer class is reserved for Texas Interdisciplinary Plan. What they don’t tell you on the the registrar page is there is two levels of TIP: TIP scholars and TIP fellows. TIP scholars is the one where they invite you when you are a freshman, and yes, that is by invitation. However, TIP fellows is not; you can still apply if you are a transfer. However, not ALL the classes marked as “for TIP” in the schedule is reserved for TIP fellows.

If you want to join the program, ask madison searle for details.

Furthermore, I know that they weren’t too happy when I told that guy that I wanted to join TIP for the reserved classes. ;(

And I along with other commentators talked about the TIP program in another thread. If you use the search feature, you would find it.

Well, there weren’t too many that didn’t pay for tuition yesterday! WTH!! I’m still 18/19 for Bierner’s. Ridiculous. Has anyone heard anything about Takata? First time he/she is teaching 325, but taught other courses before.

And damn, for CH 310M, Vanessa Williams will be teaching the Bocknack’s classes. Just barely a grad student. Don’t think she even has a PHD. :(

Will it be too much to take both BIO 205L and BIO 325 in the fall? Another thread mentioned there’s lots of work on BIO 205L and did not recommend taking both at the same time. I got into BIO 205L easily but am waitlisted on Bierner’s BIO 325. I will have to find another class if I can’t get into BIO 325.

I don’t know. I have heard that you have to do at least 4 hours of work per week for BIO 205L. But BIO 205L is easier than BIO 206L according to some people.

P.S.: I don’t think you would want to register for that class now because most likely the good TA’s have already been taken by now. Therefore, most of the available classes now would not be good for you.

I’ve already registered BIO 205L. Am I supposed to get a TA myself?

The class schedule does not show TA names. How can I figure out which has a better TA?

You can’t figure that out for any lab at UT.

Does anyone know how Mohanty is for BIO 325 or Lloyd?

texas2013, I tend to disagree with that. many of the people in my ch 118L knew who their TA was going to be. I would ask around if I were you.
:)

If you know some graduate students in the bio department, maybe they would be able to help.

xtra, it will be hard for someone like me new to the school. Do you know any graduate students in the bio department? Can you PM me?

nope sorry plnlin2. I am a biochem major. and only know a few Ch 118K/L TA’s for this summer semester.

Dang it, all the BIO 325 profs are now closed/waitlisted AGAIN. Iverson isn’t going to open up. :'(

you might be a bit late for bio 325 registration now, xcellerator. why don’t you wait until next semester (spring) to take the class b/c you risk a poor professor?

Yeah, maybe. I’m just going to keep trying, though! I’m not moving at all for Bierner.
Actually on the waitlist for Iverson. xD

It’s looks like 60 people made made it off Iverson’s waitlist today, but I’m still on. From what I can tell, genetics is a prerequisite for most other biology classes, so unless I also make it off that waitlist, I’ll be one semester behind from now until I graduate.
