Is 6 out of 446 students a good class rank? Apparently, I'm top 1% of my class (I'm guessing the percentage rounds down to 1 instead of rounding to 2). I attend an IB school in Florida. I know that colleges examine you "in context" but I was wondering how a rank of 6 would stand in terms of admissions.

It’s outstanding no matter how you look at it.

And you’re top 2%, despite what someone told you, there is no rounding in percentiles. Or there shouldn’t be. Students 1-4 are top 1%, 1-8 are top 2% and 1-13 are top 3%. Another way of putting it is 1-4 are in the 99th percentile, 5-8 are in the 98th percentiles, and 9-13 are in the 97th percentile.

A rank of 6 out of 446 students is outstanding. Congratulations

MrMom62 - On my transcript, it says I’m 99 percentile.

cee1193 - Thanks!

How many of the 446 students in your class are likely to attend four-year colleges after graduation?

If 400 of your classmates are unlikely to attend college (based on recent classes and published in the your school profile), then it would be more accurate to consider your class rank in the context of 6 out of 46 students.

Since you are in an IB school, you are probably in good shape; however there is a significant difference between a school where 100% go to college as opposed to 10% or less.

Congratulations on your accomplishment and keep up the hard work.

The most selective colleges want the top HS scholars. A lot of people throw around statements such as “if you’re top 10%, you’re fine”, but top 2-3 % is probably a more realistic benchmark.

Top 2% in an IB school is excellent. All else being equal, you’ll be competitive anywhere.
