Good composite, bad essay

I got an 8 on my essay.

Is that going to affect admissions choice a lot? I can't believe I got a 35 in English, but an 8 (75 percentile for the essay) --;;

Help =/

OMG! PLEASE STOP POSTING THESE RIDICULOUS THINGS!!!

Hardly any colleges even look at the essay because they would never expect you to write a good essay in 20 minutes. If they are concerned, they can look at your application essay to see that you can actually write. That's what it's for.

AND, will you please stop asking if a 34 is good????

Out of 1.5 million who take the ACT,

200 people get a 36
2000 get a 35
4000 get a 34 (meaning, you are in the top .2%)

I can assure you that there is plenty of room in Harvard for you!

A college would NEVER EVER EVER EVER look at two people and say, "oh, that person got a 36, but this person only got a 34, we will have to reject them." In fact, a large number of those 36 scorers will get rejected from Ivy league colleges. Test scores are only a part of admissions. Please, just stop posting about this. If your parents are pressuring you that much to get a ridiculous ACT score, just tell them to screw off. Seriously, take some control of your life.

:( It feels like my mommy is yelling at me :(

LOL(10 char)

holla..you go girl....i think?

Lol, I got a 36 with a 7 on the essay. =P

but it's a valid question. i got a 35 on the english section but an 8 on the essay, and the two sections combined gives me a 31 for English/Writing, and that changes my overall composite. So which score will colleges see? Will they still be able to see the 35 I got for English?

The colleges will see your composite as it says on your score report. The big number in the box.

Most colleges (luckily) do not give much thought to the essay section of the ACT and SAT.

what if a college requires it? because most of the schools i'm applying to require the ACT with writing.

My composite is a 31 when the English score of 35 is used, but if my English/Writing score (31) is used then it drops my overall score to a 30. For my overall will colleges see a 31 and then see my writing section seperately or will they see just a 30?

They just do that because they need it to be comparable to the SAT, because some applicants use the SAT, and some the ACT. on the SAT, the essay ACTUALLY affects your score. So, they just want to make sure it's all even. I think the fact that the ACT separates the essay out of the score is a big advantage (unless the essay is good and score poor) because colleges won't look at it.

^The essay doesn't affect the composite. Your composite will still be 31.

Oh, and fhqwgads2005, where did you get those numbers?

Even the schools that require plus writing don't give much thought to the essay

Thank you.

After finding those numbers, it makes me wonder if getting a 1, 2, or 3 on the ACT would be better than getting a 36. After all, 200 people get a 36, and if you got a 1,2,3 you would be the ONLY one. Isn't that unique? Don't colleges like that?

Also, it would take some skill because if you leave an entire section blank, they don't give you a score at all. Wouldn't it be impressive if you answered every question, and got every single one wrong? That would mean that you would HAVE to know at least most of the answers...

...r u for real? yah id want to get 1 Vs. 36
