@lpreston why would you be disappointed with a top 50 school?
@ormdad I meant to say " would have been okay "
@APScholar Well…
Northeastern is only a “top fifty school” in the set of rankings they ruthlessly gamed (see: NUin Program). It is not an intimate environment, puts you on a set track for your major (very little flexibility on the path I was put into) and I actually did not like the co-op program, which is arguable the biggest thing the school has to offer. I applied because everybody in the top 50 percent of my HS does so (I live in Cambridge).
Plus, to be perfectly honest (this is no filter here): I’m a little offended that with an SAT about 200 points above their average and a GPA 0.4 above their average I was not invited to their honors program. That was a surprise to me back in December and tbh I’m still bitter about it. Childish, I know.
@lpreston But you were rejected by all the other “better” schools you applied to. Maybe they were sending you a message.
Thanks, @TomSrOfBoston. Very mature.
When I called NEU about it, they said that their average SAT for the honors program was 2180 and their average GPA for the program was 3.8. They told me (direct quote) it was “bizzare” that I wasn’t admitted, and that I “should have been” but that it was too full for me to be added. Perhaps that was their way of shutting me up. Or do you have some other explanation? What “message” were these schools trying to send? That I was too stupid for them despite being well within their range?
I know you LOVE northeastern. Fabulous. I don’t. That is my opinion. Not everyone has to be madly in love with your favorite school. Northeastern works well for a specific set of people that I am not a part of. Please respect that I am entitled to say that NEU is not the flawless institution you make it out to be.
@lpreston If you don’t like Northeastern then don’t go there.
Top schools take an holistic look at an application. the focus of this thread is on SAT scores. The schools that rejected you did not see that “something extra” that they were looking for. Maybe Northeastern did not see that either and didn’t offer you honors.
Take a gap year and try for another school.
