@socalmom007 Political science most likely, then perhaps off to journalism school though that’s neither here nor there. I’ve an equal amount of experience in media, politics, and non-profit as it stands and the latter is the only one I’m not necessarily interested in pursuing as a career. But wouldn’t the low science section be a drawback as well?
Bumping hourly is not helpful… Also, my kids had block scheduling and studied from prep books – and had a lot higher scores. And you could have studied and taken the new SAT. Just saying, don’t try to use those excuses with colleges. The math score low, as you already know, and they are pretty comparable between your ACT and SAT. I’d send the SAT if you are set on applying early.
If Barnard were my kid’s first choice, I’d say don’t apply early and study/retest this fall. The 25% mark for math at Barnard last year was 620. You are pretty far below that. It is tough when your scores are very skewed, but scores matter. Honestly, I’d do that in any case.
You may want to have some test optional schools on your list (Mount Holyoke? Dickinson?).
@rougesneakers My D is planning to apply to Reed (ED1), Bryn Mawr, Lewis and Clark, Sarah Lawrence, Lake Forest, UNC-Asheville. A wide range from reach to to match to safety. I agree with intparent above to look at more schools, including some test-optional. What do you like about Barnard? All girls? Bryn MAwr and Smith and MoHo are TO and would love your ECs and 36R. Or that Barnard is urban? Or Northeast?
And I would not worry so much about rankings. Whether a school is 20 or 30 or 40 doesn’t matter much. You will get into some great schools with your record. Consider fit, and cost.
@intparent You’re right, I’m just a little desperate for info here I wasn’t planning on using any excuses (we all vent a little on the internet ), I know I’m comparatively not as strong in math (particularly testing-wise). Do you think that I could be outright rejected ED (vs. deferred, study, test again, have a better score & consideration that I applied ED)?
They do deny outright sometimes from ED. Can’t tell what they will do, though.
@PetulaClark It’s definitely the urban campus of Barnard combined with the women’s college aspect that does it for me. Having grown up in a sort of hip small town akin to Northampton, I am hungry for a change (and while Bryn Mawr is awesome for being so near to Philly, I want to be right in the center of the action).
