Hi we are looking for good CS/MATH major college or university. Here is stat: 3.9 UW, SAT 1450. female , white, 6 AP. Could someone help us based of this academic stat reach /match/safety school in NE only. Money is not problem but it will be nice to have some fin. help . Thanks .
“Money is not a problem” – does this mean that $70k+ per year is ok?
State of residency?
Any other preferences (e.g. large versus small)?
What math will she complete by high school graduation?
Some of the state flagships in the region like UMass - Amherst and Stony Brook are well reputed for these majors.
She looking for Coed, good school vibe, she have lot of EC’S, SAT MATH 800 /EWR 650, AP BC Math and AP CS scheduled for senior year !No preference for size. She love NU and Williams .
NU is ???
Most commonly, NU is used around here to refer to Northwestern University, which is not in the Northeast. Sometimes, it is used to refer to Northeastern University, which is in the Northeast (but Northeaster University is usually abbreviated NEU).
Assuming you mean NEU, it and Williams seem to be very different. NEU is an urban school with a pre-professional focus and curricula built around co-ops. Williams is a LAC in a rural area with nominally a more “pure academic” focus (though graduating students won’t turn away Wall Street recruiters).
Northeastern is one of the top CS schools in the country and would be a good fit. My D goes there, though she’s switched majors over to something a lot less techy. She got quite a bit of merit from there actually. My S also got accepted there for CS Cybersecurity, got an 18K/yr merit offer, but had already committed to Berkeley.
Yes , you are right , we meant Northeastern University. There are different but she somehow love both, NEU have lot good major with co-ops option and Williams have open curriculum ( very nice campus) and very good math/stat department also. Not sure if she have any chance in Williams/NEU . I will check Stony Brook web , thanks for idea.
Has she considered RPI?
I think if she applies for EA, she has a decent chance of getting in. Northeastern seems to value pre-interest a lot, more than most schools, so official visits will possibly help as well.
She may get a geographical diversity advantage in Texas. If she wants smaller private schools, try Rice and Baylor. Both have good CS, generous financial aid and merit scholarships. She should try to raise her SAT score.
Yes, she will try once again in Aug. to improve ERW part,( not sure why is that so hard for her, ) she is not “social study” person at all but math/stat/CS is so easy for her.
Yes she will def. consider RPI and WPI.
Wesleyan would make a good hybrid of NEU and Williams; slightly larger and more of a university feel than Williams. A greener, leafier campus than NEU.
If she likes the idea of an open curriculum consider Hamilton or Amherst. Williams does not offer an open curriculum.
