Good Economics - BAD STATS

White/Catholic/Middle Class/1st gen to go college

Small school-no ranking,honors,ap,ib

jv/varsity basketball all 4 years
hospital volunteering 200+ hours
boys state

My chances at following econ - if I do a / it means I want 2 answers

Syracuse / Syracuse ED
American / American ED
Northeastern / Northeastern EA

I already have mad reaches above...what are some other good schools. I want good economics program, 4k-15k students. Northeastern/South preferred, do not want midwest or west coast. These things aren't necessary but help: good sports, not extreme cut-throat, etc.

Give me some matches/safeties/reaches.

Also, what would be good safeties? Stonybrook? I don't even know if my stats are even good enough for Stony to be a safety.

So I need some matches/safeties, mostly, I'm already shooting too high on my reaches anyways.

Try a collegeboard.com search with major, size, and location.

Wesleyan University:
-Match, Slight reach
-Middletown, CT
-Excellent economics department
-around 2800 undergraduates

Bentley College:
-Safety
-Waltham, MA
-Specialized business school (has managerial economics)
-4220 Undergraduates

I think youll get into Northeastern. Maybe American and Syracuse but they are maybe matches/slight reaches.

Rochester, Minnesota, Maryland, Boston U all have good econ programs.

No SATIIs kills the BU - bump bump bump some good suggestions thanks, but I want more economics like political economics so would Bentley be acceptable?

Probably not...Bentley is a specialized business school so their economics is closer to business economics. But try Wesleyan (and also Colgate) for economics. Good luck.:)

What about Marist College in Poughkeepsie? It came up under all of my conditions and I like the city and all .... and it is in a comfort range. I would be transferring out of Marist after a year or two, hopefully to a much better school than I could ever get into out of highschool. But I'm worried as I can't even click of Economics major on marist.edu..... any help/past experiences here?

bump,bump,bump.....

FutureNY - Wesleyan as match/slight reach?
I know people who got into Cornell, NYU Stern, Chicago, who didn't get into Wesleyan.

Yeah I know I looked at Wesleyan, that is like a mega mega mega reach, I guess he just underestimated school no big deal..

Personally, I think you'll definitely get into either American or Northeastern with good essays, and have a good shot at Syracuse ED with an excellent essay and good interest.

Isn't it easier to get into Syracuse than American or Northeastern? It seems that way because American and Northeastern's acceptance rates are lower- but I have heard Northeastern has a largely underqualified applicant pool. Some incite from you guys - which out of 3 schools I listed is easiest/hardest to get into?

I mixed up American and Syracuse. (American is hardest to get into to, then Syracuse, then Northeastern, at least in my opinion.)

Either way, I'm pretty sure you'll get into at least 1 of those 3.

Alright, thanks for the help.

bump-bump-bump

rgs-I also know people who got into UChicago, UMich, and Middlebury and didn't get into NYU. Admissions is really unpredictable. :)

Northeastern has a massive applicant pool: Over 27,000 apps for 2800 spots (6500 EA). The acceptance rate is in the 40% range. Next year, the school is anticipating 30,000 apps. The average NEU applicant has a GPA/SAT of 3.5/1250 (hardly underqualified). Based on these numbers, it is now harder to get into than American and Syracuse. The scary thing is that Northeastern is only now becoming more of a national school. NEU has the potential to get upwards of 35,000 applicants in a few years.

Thanks for the heads up Maxiumus, I wasn't too sure, I'm asking, I'm not saying that Northeastern students are unqualified or anything I'm just repeating what I have heard.

"Northeastern students are unqualified or anything I'm just repeating what I have heard"

No problem. A few years ago that may have been true, but not anymore. Northeastern now attracts some highly qualified applicants. The school received so many applications this year from top students that they had to hold interviews on campus to decide who among them would get full scholarships:

bump, can anyone suggest some more matches/safeties
