I’m considering majoring in education in college, either for elementary education or secondary history. I want to go to college somewhere in the east coast, north or south doesn’t really matter. Grades are not an issue. What are some of the best colleges in the east coast for education majors and why? thanks, any comment/suggestion is helpful
University of Delaware has a strong education program. http://www.education.udel.edu/
Each state usually has a college that is good in education. What can your family afford? Going OOS will sometimes be significantly more expensive.
thanks @LeftofPisa , I’ll check it out!
@"Erin’s Dad" , money isn’t too much of an issue, however I would prefer a college with a stronger merit scholarship program, as I know i will not be receiving financial aid.
@collegebound1516 Rivier in New Hamsphire is good, so is Simmons in Massachusetts (Don’t know ANYTHING about money though)
And I go to Pace Pleasantville (You’re about to hear my tour guide pitch!)
Pace is one of 25 schools in the country with TeachLive. This is a digital avatar system where you practice classroom management without putting yourself in a potentially damaging situation. This virtual classroom is made up of 6 very unique students. You put on a mic and test out your lessons on the “class” before you do it in your field placement location. There is also a parent avatar where you practice mock parent-teacher conferences which go from very supportive to a very difficult parent.
Pace also puts you out in the field the second semester of your freshman year which is an entire year earlier than the national average. Pace, in the local community is very well regarded and 100% of education students pass certification exams.
you begin taking courses that go towards not only university core but they’re classes specific to ed majors which will count towards your major. Ex. Math is a university requirement, MAT 109 A/B is “teaching math” which is an education course.
Being a history concentration (you need to declare one even if you are childhood ed- I’m history too!) you get a lot of wiggle room and in addition to history courses counting so will sociology, economics, political science and anthropology.
If you have any other questions PM Me! Best of luck
Are you instate for Calif? If not, which state?
What is your GPA and what are your test scores?
What are your parents saying about how much they’ll pay each year? Many parents will not pay OOS rates for an education degree because it can be a waste of money. However, if you have strong stats, then you could get merit at some schools.
thanks @Jazzii i’ll definitely check it out!!
@mom2collegekids weighted gpa is 4.4, unweighted is 4.0, psat is 202, I will take the SAT in march. I live in california, and I think without any scholarship help (which Im hoping to get) my parents wouldn’t pay more than about 30,000 a year

Take the ACT as well. You may do better on that.
You need to ASK your parents how much they’ll spend each year. Don’t guess. Students often guess wrong. Ask them when they’re both together to get a real feel for how much they’ll spend. If they’re vague, that could mean a problem, as well.
