good engineering schools that offer generous financial/merit aid?

The University of Tulsa is a very solid engineering school with a wide range of backup majors and very generous merit aid.

Iowa State University, NC State mentioned, Michigan State, Alabama again, Miami of Ohio. Apply to MIT and Stanford but they aren’t going to happen. If you get in I will be the first to congratulate you. I am not saying you don’t have the stats, I am just saying. Look at schools ranked from 30-100 and see what speaks to you. There are many great colleges there.

Have you run the net price calculator on each college’s web site?

The competitive full ride merit scholarships (Park and Banneker-Key) are not safeties. Based on your budget, NCSU and UMCP are reaches, since admission without the big scholarship is equivalent to rejection.

Given your username, are you applying to service academies and/or ROTC scholarships?

University of Arizona scholarships for your stats: https://financialaid.arizona.edu/types-of-aid/scholarships/freshman-transfer . Subtracting the $35,000 scholarship from the $53,950 cost of attendance at https://financialaid.arizona.edu/cost/freshmen leaves a remaining cost of $18,950.

Arizona State’s scholarship estimator is at https://scholarships.asu.edu/estimator .

Ohio State University has a good engineering program and good merit aid. Look up OSU buckeye scholarship for oos students. Is 14500 a yr plus possible smaller scholarships.

University of South Carolina has an engineering program which isnt ranked as high as OSU. USC Merit scholarships are great and it is possible to get in state tuition with the right stats.

Both require good stats but not impossibly high. Stats for scholarships are clearly detailed on schools website.

Based on my stats, I would only have to pay around $2k per year if I attended ASU (in-state). I’ve heard that ASU is a regional school and it would be more difficult to get job/internship opportunities in the East since ASU isn’t as well-known outside of the Southwest. If all my other options end up being too expensive, I will probably just stay in-state.

I’m really hoping to be able to gain new experiences outside of my state if possible, though.

FWIW, my midwest daughter will be majoring in biomedical engineering next year. The schools that gave her the most merit were University of Iowa, UMass Amherst, and University of Delaware. She ended up choosing Delaware because of the merit they gave her. Other schools I know of with great engineering merit are Milwaukee school of engineering, Iowa State, and Colorado School of Mines (if you get ROTC scholarships on top of merit it’s really reasonable). Good luck!
