<p>I signed up for the Comcast Double Play package for my apartment, which includes 6 Mbps internet and Digital Starter Cable. It's plenty fast for downloading, though I don't have a router yet so I haven't tested the connection with multiple people using it. If you can afford it (the package is $66.00 a month), I'd recommend it, though I've been using it for less than a month. If you need speed and have lots of people using it, I'd recommend cable over DSL.</p>

The problem with cable is it's a shared line, if other people near you are using heavy amounts of bandwidth, your bandwidth goes down... and this is a college town. So, it may advertise 6 Mbps, but you aren't gonna be getting close to that during peak hours, or if you happen to be in a bandwidth heavy area (say, surrounded by college students fond of torrent...)</p>

<p>hmm, not really. Comcast is an unethical and shady monopoly. The only thing they get right is their Mr. Slowsky commercial bashing dsl; dsl is indeed slow as hell.</p>
<p>BUT...if you are an old hand dealing with Comcast's crap, you can get internet only for an average of $25-30 a month over a year:D</p>
<p>I was aware of the general negative attitude towards Comcast going in, but so far I have not been disappointed. I'm a heavy downloader and have yet to be disappointed with download speeds for well-seeded torrents (stable 700+ KBps), though the school year hasn't really kicked off yet and speeds may drop a bit when it does.</p>
